It’s so lovely to see you make this using mostly hand tools instead of mortice cutters and cnc machines ect... takes $50k worth of machinery just to knock out something simple! You are a true craftsman in every sense of the word and it’s a pleasure to watch you work.

Kai E. has it right in so many ways. The Samurai has inspired me to really go for it, make stuff, for the joy of it. but as Kai E. has said you cant eat the joy, you cant take sellter under joy. Samurai you got it right! you have shown me its possable to make a living at a craft. keep going and thank you for what you have done for me.

To all of you who say that it's bad that he goes for money instead of his passion: *you can't live off of passion.* You can't trade it for food, you can't trade it for rent, you can't even pay a hooker with it. So apparently *you* didn't notice, that *HE IS INDEED CHASING HIS PASSION: MAKING WOODWORKING A LIVING!* Isn't that the dream? But unless some of you write him a check every month you should stop whining cause he can't live off of your tears either.

Dude! Keep doing whatever you need to do. This video was awesome. I'm a seasoned woodworker and still enkoyed watching you make something so simple and yet so elegantly done. Ignore the haters. Having said that, your audio levels are all over the place. I'm watching on a tablet, in bed, and raising and lowering volume trying to hear you speak and not wake up the Fun Management Officer next to me with the music. ;)

wow reading the comments and sad to hear some don't understand. mates you will piss out 20 bucks a month on beer and starbucks. this is an inexpensive education you can build on and make money down the road. yes he needs to make a living we all knew that going in. im an avid woodworker and I have made a wonderful living on woodworking before joining. I joined to learn the different details and techniques. what im saying is your never too old or young to learn no matter how free or not it is. content like this is priceless. the cost of education and designs and drawings is worth it alone. this is samurai and I approve this message. lol all kidding aside its worth it.

The most basic component of wood-working is creating. Why not create and use some of your own tools! Yes, you can easily go buy a wooden mallet, but why not make one and then love what you make! Beautiful!

I have been watching your videos lately and have really liked you mix of styles and techniques. I started out with Japanese saws until I could afford to buy quality push saws which cost WAY more and require much more effort to become proficient and require way more maintenance. I have started to revisit my pull saws due to your videos and have been surprised with how quickly I can produce quality results with them.

I suspect most of the viewers are young (ish). I consider Samurai young too but wise and talented, mostly talented though. Skill is acquired and it can help to watch someone who actually has skill get a job done. There were at least fifty examples to learn from in this video that a few squeaky wheels are whining about. Take a block of maple and texture it by hand with a...well you pick the tool, but he used a fishtail gouge, and you will likely see a big failure. Things that he makes look easy are not and require too many things to list. But watching is priceless.
@a0flj0
@a0flj0 6 жыл бұрын
Every time a professional does something that looks easy, regardless of the particular profession, you can bet it's not at all easy. A professional makes it look easy because he's done the same operations thousands of times before, and as such has developed the routine to do it nearly perfect each time. No bloody beginner will be able to pick up a tool and get something done perfectly from the get go. But, at least, watching someone do it gives you a starting point.

Jesse, does there need to be a taper at the top of the mallet head hole to accomodate the spread of the handle?
@cdouglas1942
@cdouglas1942 6 жыл бұрын
The wedged spread of the handle end is to keep the head on the handle. A non-tapering hole allows the wedges to mechanically jam the handle to the head...they become inseparable.
