Just wanna point out to those who want to know exactly where each block is being placed I used to be like that however it’s so much easier just placing a braking to see which blocks fit each place better for you, trust me it will make a huge difference to your building

try sizing things out and experimenting in a creative world

Set up, in your mind, a few general sizes for houses. Think "A small house will be from a 5*5 to 9*9" and so on for medium, large, and extra large houses. Small houses would usually just be decoration; if they have an interior at all it is just a bed, a table, some paintings, and so on. Medium Houses would often have a secondary, tradesman area; a merchant would have his shop or stall, a blacksmith has his forge. Large Houses are where you would stash your functional bits, if you are including them; like one of the houses in fWhip's town on Sourceblock is just a bunch of chests. In a larger house, you can hide those kind of rooms in behind more decorative ones, so it isn't obvious where all your stuff is. Extra Large Houses would be Mansions and Keeps. Once again, usually decorative, but this time with a "high class" rather than "low class" feel.

I’d say to test out build styles and try creative worlds. Also play with scale factor as practice so you know what you’re doing as you build it. There’s also the idea of adding rooms and gardens or whatever else on the end of a completed house to expand it like Fwhip did with the tower on the first house

1) Terraform. Terraforming the environment to be able to fit your house is a huge must when planning your house. With this you can either make more space for your house to be made, make your house look neater or you can also make the environment a little more harsh so you can have a bit more of a creative house design. 2) After terraforming, start at the bottom and loosely build your way up. Just build the outline of your house, make the first floor of your building. Figure out where you want to go from there and then build the second floor of your building. Make any roofs or balconies for the first layer of the building and then just keep going upwards until you're satisfied. 3) Large houses don't look great if they're square. Use different shapes and different sizes. Or build shapes into shapes. 4) When roofing houses of different sizes and layers, instead of making one large roof, make a roof for the main part of the building and have separate roofing merge into the main building's roof. Don't forget that you can also have balconies or different roof designs. 5) Usually I have an idea in my head of the house I want to build, so I build the outside of the house and then I make the interior afterwards. But if you've not thought of what your house wants to look like, it might be worth just building the first floor of the building, making the interior of that first floor before you move on to the second floor. That way you will have enough room to make any adjustments you would like without having to rebuild the whole building. 6) Flat floors are boring. The more different it feels, the more interesting it becomes.

i started building better constructions and buildings just 1-2 months ago after playing 4-5 years, at the start i watched a LOT of tutorials and i started understanding how it works like that, i just watched medieval building vids like this one and started picking all the details of the buildings like the rooftops,the different materials in a single wall,etc... and added things i liked to my style. After about 3 years of doing that (it doesnt needs to be that long) i started making a big project (that i havent finished yet) of a medieval world, i was building with all the details of the videos i saw and mixing them up, at the start, my buildings were horrible but with the time started getting better and better, to this day, i still learning a lot, i also like to see others people constructions to have an inspiration of how to start building (like this town of the video, after i saw this, i picked what i like of his styile and mixed it with his style), thats how i started learning, probably, you are going to learn in a totally different way, but i wanted to share you my experience so you can have something to hold to and dont start completely without a clue. PD: My english is completel broken, im starting to learn it so im sorry if i sound dumb or i couldnt really express myself.

I often lean more into things that tell more of an interesting story than necessary things being useful and end up having a million messy hidden chests. It's a good idea to add something like a barn. I made a Survival world about 5 months ago and I’ve played that one. I have maxed out netherite tools and armor. But I just realized that I’ve literally made my place so so flat. I have no man made trees, no natural ones, no leaves, no flowers and I have realized that I spent so much time on end cities, nether, tools, armor, villager trading that I didn’t even focus on the most important thing. It's one thing to fly around freely in creative mode and build beautiful designs using whatever blocks you want and something completely different to set something like this up in survival. Just harvesting leaf blocks to decorate with as bushes around your house, or lanterns to brighten up the surroundings all requires iron which you need to mine and smelt, as well as coal which you also need to first mine. And to move water to make a stream requires at least one bucket, i.e. more iron. You also need a bed a.s.a.p. in order to not get overrun by mobs. My point is, this all looks very easy while in reality it takes lots of work and planning to create a base like this.

In Minecraft I personally like a more terraforming aspect of building so it’s hard for me to actually build houses haha I mean, I’ve found this place where it’s a huge lake with a small island in it and I’ve filled it with some 1.17 stuff (i.e. moss, dripleaf etc) and it looks really nature-y I’ve also put Lily pads to go around that island and a path to the to be village, for now I’ve build some farmland and a honey and glowberry farm. This video was extremely helpful as I didn’t know how to start on the houses within the village, thanks for the video fwhip!

I cannot make the exterior designs of the houses. But you can easily make the beautiful design you want. It is not easy to combine the wall and roof of a house and create something beautiful. It is also difficult to build a tower-like roof or an extra roof in the half of the house while making the second floor of the house. But you can do it all.

I agree. I really wish more youtubers would show off what they can build in survival. Things they actually collect for. This is why I have always liked to watch Mumbo. He tends to almost always build in survival. To Whip's defense, I think there's a lot of pressure to upload constantly to keep up with demand and expectations in today's YT environment. And that's difficult to do in an interesting way when 90% of survival is spent collecting resources. I think Whip should drop the survival portion of his titles out, however, if he is going to be doing his content in creative. It's misleading and a bit of a turn off. Although, his builds are quite spectacular.

I started my survival world with a camp. Each tent held a different purpose and it was themed like a traveling caravan. It wasn’t as resource heavy as constructing buildings, except the wool collecting.

im gonna build a town using this seed, but a diffrent style, so i become better by not doing the exact thing you showed me. remember to improve you have to broaden your skills
