Thanks for a great video. The fabric is just beautiful! 🧡 I have a couple questions. If I want a completely yellow fabric with bright spots of yellow and orange. Should I dye fabric with the yellow marigolds in pot and then remove fabric and do the bundle dye process and steam? What’s the easiest way to handle? Thank you!
@CasaCaribe
@CasaCaribe 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Cindy! That's a really good question, you can let the fabric to steam for a little longer so that the colour will cover all the fabric, but in this case you will not going to have a strong contrast; my suggestion will be that you first dye the fabric and them bundle dye in top of the yellow fabric, like this you will get a strong contrast between the yellow background and the spots of petals. Hope I helped you 😊 thanks!

Hi Casacaribe Natural, love love love your video, just discovered natural dyeing through your video and it sent me down a rabbit hole. I had a question, so I was thinking of doing this to my pillow cases/ bedding and a face mask down the line. I dont know much about the chemicals, tannin and Alum but would it be safe for me to use on my pillows/ face mask? Not sure how much of the elements would be left in the material. TIA

Hi! I love how you discovered natural dyes from my videos, that makes me happy, they are tonnes of video on youtube to learn, is such a great hobby 😊 about your question, went you dye the fabric all the dye that is in the water will get attached to the alum inside the fabric, so there is no risk of loose alum inside the fibre; the alum we use as a mordent is safe to use on the skins ( some natural deodorant are just potassium alum) and in the EU, alum can be used legally in food. (E522) . But, if it makes you feel uncomfortable I suggest that you can try pretreating your pillowcase/facemask using soy milk. In this video I explain how to do it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/naOZY3eLl812eK8&ab_channel=CasacaribeNatural I'm sure your pillowcases will look amazing, if you have any other question, please let me know :)

@CasaCaribe
@CasaCaribe 8 ай бұрын
Hello 😊 Thank you so much, I'm happy that you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. To fix the colour of the fabric you need to follow a process called mordant fabric, for fabrics like cotton and linen you use aluminium acetate and for fabrics like wool potassium alum. when you mordant the fabric the colour will attach to the fibre and will result in long-lasting colours. to wash the cloth it depends of the fabric you are using, but always use a PH neutral detergent ( some dyes change colour with different PH) If you want to know more about natural dyes I invited you to visit my website: www.casacaribe.art

Does the mordant fabric have to dry before wetting and adding flowers? Can you soak fabric in mordant and lay out on table immediately and then place flowers and then steam?
@CasaCaribe
@CasaCaribe Жыл бұрын
Hi Netty, sorry for the late response. 😥 No, the mordant fabric does not have to be dry before adding the flowers, so YES, if you mordant the fabric you can just wash the fabric lightly to remove any excess mordant layout on the table and then add the flowers right away. Thanks 🌿☺

which techniques is better the hammer or bundle dye technique? Also how long can we expect the color to last on the fabric or garment?
@CasaCaribe
@CasaCaribe 4 ай бұрын
Hi :) they are different techniques with different results, it all depends on personal taste, I prefer the hammer technique because it allows me to have some control, but also love the randomness of the bundle dye. if you treat the fabric of the garment correctly ( this means, scouring and mordanting the fabric) the colour is expected to last a long time, they are fabric dyed with natural colours from the antique Egypt. 😊

Hi Diva! Yes, you can use organza silk to bundle dye. Protein fabric like silk works better with natural colour than cellulose fabric like cotton, so you will get stronger colours. Thank you for this video. Why do u recommend not to use kitchen pot? If I use for mordant soy milk can I use kitchen pot or not?) is it ok to make mordant by vinegar? Thank you a lot!
@CasaCaribe
@CasaCaribe Жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you ☺ I don't recommend using a kitchen pot because some iron or alum from the mordanting process may stay in the pot, and if you cook in that pot you may get an overdose of iron. Also, some dyestuffs are not suitable for human consumption, like daffodils. If you are using soy milk as a binder and a dyestuff that is suitable for human consumption you can use your kitchen pot, remember to wash it very well after use. vinegar is not a mordant but a colour modifier ( modifies the ph of the dye) The mordant is a substance that creates a chemical bond with the fibre and later with the dye particles.

Hi.I wanna start natural tie and dye scarfs business..I have a couple of questions.1 For any fabric (silk, georgette)we can use soya milk mordant? 2. How many days this dye lasts?
@CasaCaribe
@CasaCaribe 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I'm excited about your new business. You can treat the silk with soy milk, but if you are thinking of selling the scarfs I recommend using an alum mordant, this will guarantee that the colour will stay in the fabric for a long time. With georgette fabric you first have to ask the producer the fibre that they are using, most of the georgette you will find now in the market are made with rayon, with is a synthetic fibre. If you treat the silk with a mordant ( like potassium alum) are you are using a well know dye ( like Weld, madder, cochineal) the dye will last all the duration of the textile. If you have any other questions, please feel free to write me an email at casacaribeitalia@gmail.com. 💚 have a nice day!

my marigold bundle dye always turn greenish
@CasaCaribe
@CasaCaribe 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, One reason for your marigold dye to be turning green could be that you have the pot or the wooden spoon contaminated with iron, Iron shifts the yellow colour into a green/brownie hue. With natural colour there is always a lot of variables that can change the final colour, the type of marigold or the way it was harvested can affect the final colour. For example, I move to a different country and my onion dye drastically.

Hello ma'am I tried dying with marigolds, but it turned out to be a sea green colour instead of yellow or orange. I used baking soda and salt as mordant. Where did I go wrong?
@CasaCaribe
@CasaCaribe 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Adhisheree, Thank you so much for your question.😊 I don't recommend using Baking soda and salt because they are not mordants, they don't create a chemical bond with the dye. The reason why you get a sea green colour instead of yellow or orange could be because you use baking soda, which is a PH changer, you change the PH in the water making the colour shift from yellow to green; another reason could be the type of pot that you used, if you use an iron pot, the iron in the pot may shift the colour in the bath toward a darker of greener colour. Hope this answer your question 😊 But if you get a sea-green colour is great! green is one of the most difficult colours to get!
