+1 for the bike setup section. Thank you for your tutorial videos I really enjoy and like them. One minor thing, maybe it will help someone: I think it is a little easier to think of lifting your rear wheel in a little different way. I got this from a Berm Peak Bunny Hop tutorial (note: this should be seen as addition to this one, not as a replacement!) As you clearly can see in 5:54 Tom lifted the back wheel already before doing any curling with his feet :) - he actually lifts even the back of his bike by using his arms - the feet might support that movement but the heavy lifting or easier imho by thinking of in a different way. Hard to explain just have a look at the berm peak video. Funny thing: at 6:25 he unconsciously makes exactly that movement.

Bunny hops are the bane of my existence on a bike. If I'm blasting down a trail at 30 mph and come up on a log unexpectedly, it just seems to work. Or maybe I've been lucky so far. But in a flat parking lot I'm lucky to get over the curb. This is a slightly different way to look at it, fingers crossed.

For street and DJ you don't want to be landing on your front wheel (unless you're going for a nose wheelie/front manual or whatever it's called) but in trail riding, downhill etc it's often good to get the front wheel down first, to get grip for the inevitable turn you'll need to make on landing. In those scenarios I always aim for a flat landing (parallel to the gradient) with the option to push the front end down first if I need to. You never want commit to a front wheel landing, if your head is in front of your front axle on landing you're in trouble!!

It looks like on that bike you're lifting the front wheel up high enough and jumping straight up extending your legs as hard and fast as you can with your toes pointing down.. I think that's where I get it wrong. I'm not down low enough to spring upwards. Plus I'm pretty thin for being 6ft so I don't have the centrifugal mass to launch me and the weight of the bike up too high.
@TomCardy5 жыл бұрын
Yeo, its all about the pop, the lower you can go the more you can spring up, keep sending it dude! :)

Guys who can't bunnyhop read this. I've been wanting to bunnyhop for about a year and everyday I have practised and practised and I gave up a few weeks back, today I went out in the rain to practise my car park skills and I started to do an endo withought my front brake so I was pleased. Then I accidently lifted my front wheel whilst trying to do and endo and I did it, then again, and again. So the secret is give up I guess or stop trying so hard 😂

THX! Really helpful! In fact, I have suffered from both nosedive and "front wheel bunny hop". So I think the point is to lift the rear wheel as soon as the front wheel reaches the maximum height? =)

I think practicing to lift your handlebars into your hips before you lift your rear is kinda good. Atleast it feels cool, I can only jump over small stuff :p

For tailwhips, I can spin the bike easily with my feet on the ground, but when I try it out of a bunnyhop it always stalls halfway through the whip. Any tips?
