For any lifters out there, it helped me to think of the pop as an explosive dead lift. It's a very similar motion where all the work is done by your legs, hips and back.

Bunnyhopping is something that was a gradual thing to learn for me, feels like I definitely had to get stronger physically before I was finally able get both wheels off the ground. One day I just tried compressing the suspension, then on the rebound I lifted myself and the bike lifted up along with me. :) Now that I'm able to do that, it's just a matter of getting better at it now. I've used it to clear small gaps on the ground at my local trails to maintain my speed, also have used it to jump off of small tree roots and rocks and stuff to get some air. :) It's made riding a lot more fun.
@razorSH
@razorSH 3 жыл бұрын
@@bengonzales1182 If you have to use so much force perhaps the technique is wrong. I don't agree with this video that you are "lifting" the bike. It's a matter of quickly shifting your weight on the bike while your front wheel is in the air and I was able to do it with my first bike when I was 9 years old and weighting < 30kg
@bengonzales1182

Great tutorial- one thing I add when showing friends is looping out (I.E. the point where you bail out of a wheelie). Practicing looping out allows you to find that perfect balance point (aka tallest meerkat position according to your video) before throwing everything forward. Beginner MTB'ers seem to rely more on pop from suspension compression when in reality the whole thing should look like a a skateboarder doing an ollie- arms are the front leg, and legs are the back leg (if that makes any sense...). Compress, pull back as hard as you can, when you hit that loop point, explode upwards with your legs while throwing the front end up and out as far forward as you can muster.

Been working on this. One thing that helped me get the wheel up better was to be sure to keep heels down, and then think of pushing the pedals forward and under the front wheel as it comes up. The notion is that, instead of the wheel rising as the bike rotates up and around the rear hub, the whole bike is rotating around an imaginary point near its middle - the front wheel coming up and back over that point, and the back wheel rotating forward and under that point. Just the thought of doing this for some reason helps lever the wheel up.

Thanks to these videos, just today I bunny hopped a stick, then a small log, trackstands and even cleaned a rough concrete/rock "feature" about 6'' high that I otherwise would have never attempted. I may be 28, but this is the most fun I've ever had on a bike. BTW, the simplest things make the difference. "Preload" and "Mongoose". Biggest things that helped me bunnyhop were; A high bunny hop is mainly in the body and preload, but a bunny hop itself is simply pulling your bars up, and then pushing them forward with your thumbs/wrists. Point your toes down to the ground, then scoop your feet up while maintaining pressure against the pedals. But like Seth said, preload is huge. Crouch down and then spring up like a spring and do the above.

Tristan _Plays it does, but probably not in the way youre doing it. if youre spent after a handful of tries, your energy is not being implemented properly and youre probably doing something wrong. its supposed to be an explosive movement done in a relaxed manner if that makes sense. dont tighten up. use full range of motion on your bike. after you get the hang of how to shift your weight, all of a sudden your vertical skyrockets.

I have a DiamondBack mountain bike that I got last year for around $450. I'm not a fan of it because the seat is high. I am getting really big into mountain bike and i can't afford a second one. Tge seat is a good length to do normal biking with, but any tricks are very difficult to learn on it since it's so high. When the seat is the whole way down, I can move it up about 2 inches before I can't touch the ground. I am about 5'11" and 15 years old. What do you think I should do? Should I sell this one and get a different one? Or should I keep this for now until I fan get a new one, which will be a long time?

Dylan Bryson Hey dude. I has the same problem but took the seat post to a bike shop and they cut it down. I thing you can also go to other places to do that. Also you can get a dropper post.
@717Jeepin
@717Jeepin 7 жыл бұрын
Jeronicoco Well the bottom of the seat hits the frame. That's as low as it can possibly go. A dropper post would still make it that length at the lowest setting. I am about 5' 9" and 15 years old (I don't know if I mentioned that in the original comment) and I can barly touch the ground. There's not much more to do

Dylan Bryson Well I guess you can still cut the seat post to a smaller size . There are many ways to do this.

Thanks for the wonderful BH tutorial. Finally found a video which finally touched on basics that actually works! After watching so many videos, I found that the Meerkat pose is the best way to launch myself into a BH. As of day #1 with the Meerkat pose of around 70-80° to the ground, I can feel the rear wheel already lifting even at low speed. Will have to fine tune and work the muscle memory to achieve greater heights.

It's fair to say that I'm new with using bike to do more than just get from A to B and bunny hop was a big problem to me, Seth's first tutorial didn't help me, but this one is just perfect. Today I did my first legit American bunny hop. Thx Seth

That insight on the meerkat position is golden, Seth! That's the part I'm having most trouble with, and I'd never thought of practicing just the manual to meerkat movement. I'll give that a shot and see if it helps me break through this barrier that I've been at for so long. Cheers, man!

It's been great I've just started getting back into biking I used to do a little bmx as a kid but at 28 I've really started to enjoy some mountain biking!!! You've inspired me to dig deep and learn as much about the sport as I can!! Thank you!!!!

I like the meerkat analogy. really helped me when developing extra height. I guess I always subconsciously did it, but focusing on it helps drive that upward momentum to make the bike feel weightless.

I didn’t realize that you actually have to think about jumping. The idea of thinking of my bike as the passenger really helps. It’s like skateboarding. When I first tried to do Ollies I just kept trying to do what it looked like other people were doing which was riding the skateboard into the air as it magically lifts you up. No. I had to jump while popping the tail down. I never thought it worked the same on bikes. And after my first day of trying the hop on my road bike with flat pedals I thought it was impossible due to having flat pedals. I managed to get off the ground a few times and then quit after I finally fell. Thank you for this video. The tutorials on how to do this with a road bike didn’t help me like this video. I’ll keep practicing.
