I replaced cam gears, injectors, serpentine belt and pulleys, front lower control arms, power steering reservoir, intake cam shafts and lifters and rebuilt the rear suspension. I think that's all yes.. Good to go for a long time now. Did it cost some, yes. Was it worth it? Yes.

@snikomaqubela I have been looking at a few of these floating about in need of maintenance and the qoutes I got are close 35-55k, it's a hard to pill to swallow buying a car and immediately dumping cash into it. 😅 to be safe dnt look at high mileage examples unless you have receipts or a really low price at this rate I would settle for a c55 it's more attainable

How much did it cost, you ask. Well I got the car at a very good price so I could afford to put a few rands into it. A 2013 Edition 507 landed in my lap for the price of a preface lift car. One with the LSD option from factory, no less! Makes a big difference in the road mannerisms of the car. I believe it to be a very special car. I do know that prices will go up, no doubt about that, not just the later cars but also the earlier versions. But don't just buy for that reason alone. Buy to enjoy! I decided to keep the car for the long haul, ten years or so. It made sense to spend the money on repairs and maintenance now before parts get too scarce and expensive to buy.

I have a 2007 C209 CLK63 AMG with the M156 engine. I bought the car with 185000km on it with a full service history mixed between agents and independent mechanics. Thus far the engine has been bulletproof with no oil leaks or the like. I did however have an issue of the "Top up coolant" warning light frequently coming up which necessitated a coolant top up of around 1l every 500km however this turned out to be a leak in the cooling system and not from worn head bolts. My mechanic, a now independent ex Mercedes-Benz technician, confirms your 2% stat as he says he did all of 2-3 cars in his life spanning well over 15 years. Oil usage is as per your stated amount around 800ml to 1l every 1000km and is normal for this engine. Thus far my cam shafts are all fine and the engine is very smooth with no audible ticking noises from the lifters. A vibration at idle can also be caused by worn out engine and gearbox mounts which are common on these engines and drivetrains because of the immense torque this engine pushes out so its noteworthy to consider those as potential culprits for any vibrations. Typically they should be replaced every 60-80000km. A common issue on the interior of the W204 C-Class is the MBUX centre controller, the knob/wheel that controls the infotainment system. Often they will stop sensing turns which requires a replacement part that's easily obtainable online and can be done DIY. Overall extremely well built cars with an engine to match provided you do proper maintenance as well as preventative maintenance regularly. Good to consider using Liqui Moly lifter additive every oil change to keep the lifter oil chambers free of dirt helping to extend the life of the lifters and camshafts.

An overlooked option in searching for a C63 is a CLK 63, yes its slightly older but has the same engine(its even a little more powerful in the CLK version) and braking system, I stand to be corrected on the transmission but i think it also shares the same transmission as the C63. All in all the C63 is the most desired mid range AMG but the CLK is a great and good looking alternative.

Owned mine (facelift) from new in 2013, 11 years and the only thing that has gone wrong was the condenser & thermostat (both replaced under warranty at the time). Good preventative maintenance keeps them as they should be, most second hand cars these days have been bought when people couldn’t afford to maintain them and there are loads of rough examples out there unfortunately. Good research and knowing what to look out for should find you a good one. Lumpy idle on these could also be nothing, intake manifold gaskets & pinched lines can also cause this on these cars. The biggest issue on these apart from the prefacelift headbolts are sticking injectors which can cause the engine to hydrolock (surprised you didn’t mention this) milage doesn’t matter for this issue, I would just replace them every 5-8 years as they are cheap for oem bosch without the amg logo from Mercedes. Now they are getting older more issues with lower front arms (mercedes only part) are expensive. Other cars have had sunroof/boot seals gone and leaking water into the car, upper engine pan seal seeping which is an engine out job to do a reseal, condenser and some oil coolers leaking with age now too. Other than that and the cam/lobe issues on higher milage cars they are pretty bulletproof tbh.

I had one from 2015-2017 (and then I bought a house 😂) and I loved it! One thing not mentioned but that is noteworthy is the positioning of the high pressure power steering hose which sits between the block and the firewall. With the torque movement of this powerhouse, there is a tendency for the pipe to wear and eventually fail and rupture. This happened on mine and the power steering fluid (which the owners manual indicates as non-flammable) landed on a hot catalytic converter just below and caught alight. Thankfully no fire damage but it did end with a R27k bill from Mercedes (beginning of 2017) including a new power steering pump. This was a recall item overseas and not in South Africa. The hoses were redirected to avoid recurrence. Definitely something worth checking on.

I just do not understand how expensive cars have so many issues in comparison with relatively cheap cars
@MrK4886 ай бұрын
Unfortunately for cars, the price tag does not represent quality of the car, it mostly just means that the car has more tech-stuff in it. And more techn on the car means more things can potentially go wrong. Which eventually pushes up the maintenance expenses 😂

Materials and engineering is where the costs go into, A car with so much power and weight needs to last and also be able to stop, go around corners, be comforatble, be refined and go very fast and protect its passengers and keep them safe in a collision when its needed to. All that requires extra engineering and durable high quality parts.
@tulongahenoch34226 ай бұрын
Some of these hitech cars 🚗 seems to be designed only to last up 150 000km, upon which all high engineering materials breakdown. Can't be paying R1million for a car that will have camshaft issues after just 60 000km....
