Well that sucks. I watched this because I thought you had some secret formula for buying a vintage guitar. Instead I find out that I gotta work and save. WTF. LOL. Seriously, your dedication and determination is admirable. I'd love to shoot for a Danocaster, which is probably as close as I'm gonna get.

Love the channel and the advice Ford, wish I had got it when I was younger! Nevertheless, whether you buy vintage or not I think you have to buy the guitar that speaks to you. Because if it ain’t working for you, you’re never going to play it.

Great advice brother! 🙏 I met you at that Neural DSP meetup and enjoyed the hang (and that badass SG you dawg! 😜) but I also lived in PA from age 2-10 (born in Chicago) and then moved to TX and then to TN years later but lived in Mount Lebanon when I was in PA. Anyway, solid advice and enjoying the content as always! 🤘

This should be required viewing for anyone that gets angry when someone else buys an expensive guitar. Most people work really hard for it! Nobody owes us anything! Also I once left my Les Paul on the front seat of an unlocked car with the windows down for an hour in a shady part of town. I still have it. 🤷♂️

True man. I used to look at these guitars and think , how and the hell am I ever going to get a guitar like that. Every vintage guitar owner I asked said the same thing . Work hard, look for deals and trade up. My first big vintage purchase was a ‘67 tele years ago for 5k. I eventually traded my way into a ‘62 335 for about 20k . Then just recently traded the 335 for a super clean ‘57 tele. I’m just a working stiff with a factory job ,a mortgage and a 5yr old. That loves playing old guitars. If I can do it any one can. It just depends on how important that guitar is to you.

When Mark Knopfler moved to London with his red Strat he had no money and was sleeping on sofas of other musicians in the area I lived. It took him a fair amount of time to build a reputation.

Fascinating chat Ford. A lot of good sense here. That's the way I went to get my favourite guitar but it's not vintage it's an r9. I suddya. Wdluvasubac man.👍

I’m weird, all my guitars feel like magic, from $89 to $5k, they all inspire. If I sold them all to get one I’d be sad.

Was it worth moving to Nashville over all? Lookin back Austin sounds like its been getting to the over crowded after covid. Was your goal to get involved in a paticular scene or where the scene was happening, meet people. Are you keeping an open mind and maybe wanna meet some cats you have chemistry and make albums and tour? session work? I cant imagine its the cheapest pace to live. Im nobody you dont have to answer , I guess just trying to get a feel for the city. Does anyone ever see Johnny Hiland around? Hed be fun to jam with Joe Bonamassa when hes not touring steady or gone? Does Dan Huff ever jam with you guys?
@2011goldtop12 күн бұрын
@@claytonjohn6473 I use to go to Johnny house and twang. I would say that Nashville is amazing. It’s just not that hard here. It’s been great me and it’s got opportunities everywhere ‘ I tour and play in studios and overall it’s made my life much better

It seems that this is just from an investment stand point. Does beleiver fever = good investment, or is it tone ? Or both? How is that tone acheived in a lesser instrument ? Not for resale of course but for tone ?

I. buy a guitar when I feel that “magic” if you would. I recently bought a handmade Elferink Excalibur archtop from Carter Vintage. But unfortunately I had to drop it off for set up locally because they didn’t set it up or bother to change the crusty strings (as initially promised, hopefully I’ll get reimbursed) and if so, I’ll be satsfied.) That guitar is special and not going anywhere when I get it back, just like my Gretsch White Falcon with the /cadillac bridge laying next to me at this very moment!

I know this is going to be unpopular....but most vintage guitars suck....and I say that after owning many over the years. Unless you just want to collect vintage....you would be much better off buying a used 335 in good shape for $2000-$2500 than spending $4000-$6000 on a "vintage" 335. Same goes for strats and Les Pauls. With vintage guitars come vintage problems...tuners...pickups...wiring...frets. The idea that somehow these guitars were made soooo much better than modern manufacturing is a fairy tale.
