Keep in mind you need to pay shipping on each order from each store, whichncan cost you up to $15-$25 per store if you're buying a fair amount of parts. So in reality its cheaper to pay for the whole set with $20 shipping from one seller.
@gdn8617 күн бұрын
I've found it really depends on the set, and it's matter of if you care about exact color match in some cases. I love having the complete set in box with a manual, but it's not always needed or even possible for a reasonable cost. They sell some of the Architecture manuals for $20-30, minifigs can get crazy expensive. The set itself may be amazing, and it would be $100 if not for the exclusive minifigs, box and book. If you buy those complete or even part them out with them included, it jumps up.

By the way, you can if you choose to, contact LEGO with the set number, and the info from the back of the instruction manual, and get missing set pieces directly from them at no charge. You simply need the part number to provide. It can be done right on the LEGO site. I’ve also spoken with them and they do support replacements for retired sets that are sold third party as well. I replaced a missing Luke Skywalker and Porkins from a retired 9493 X-Wing.

Great vid. I thought the 'part out' feature was only intended for sellers. Didn't know you could use it to make a wanted list. Nice. The only thing I would caution against would be selecting 'used' parts - since these can often be pretty badly scratched and with bite marks. Need to select new parts only if you want something that looks as good as a sealed box set.

Lepin is still cheaper. For the casual kid playing with them it is an economical option. I bought a BNIB Maersk train set from a Bricklink seller in South Korea - genuine product, not Lepin. With postage, I still saved over AUD$200 compared to buying it from someone within Australia on eBay, and shipping was fast too - got it in three days! Yes, the seller still made a profit compared to when it was originally sold by TLG, but I'm only paying 1.6 times the price instead of more than 2 to 2.5 times the price! Shop around. It pays off.
@SquirrelArmyStudios20156 жыл бұрын
Don't forget any additonal charges, one of the stores you showed also charge for using Paypal, I had a recent order with them with £7 for shipping then £5 for paypal. I have no problem with that as their bricks are reasonable. You can soon add £5-£15 per store you buy from. As for what makes a UCS Set special, it's usually any stickers & exclusive Minifigs they have included. You're not getting a UCS set without them, it's just a collection of bricks. It will be interesting to see what you can get the current UCS Millennium Falcon for. There's a lot of unique parts for that set plus a high demand for them. Incidently the Lepin version of the X-Wing is £75 including delivery.
@mikewhitaker28806 жыл бұрын
that being said maybe your allowance wont be enough to get it all at once either... my guess is you can save part of the list and get it later too if your worried about having the "FULL" set.... this could include things like the instructions or stickers or mini-fig.... either way definitly still a cheaper option.. if all the parts are available...

It is a great method. I also like it how you suggest some parts can be replaced by others, colour-wise, to still get the set done for a good price. That, of course, will make uptight collectors frown; but those who want LEGO to play, not to collect (which is actually investing and reselling, quite often), will be very happy with Light Bluish Gray instead of Light Gray, for instance. Shipping could add a lot to the cost, particularly from other continents (such as when shipping from Thailand there to UK), but you might still get a great deal. To optimize prices, though (and this is a great tip which comes next), order some more parts from the same sellers, for other projects!
@MajDuty6 жыл бұрын
My biggest complaint about Lego is they retire their sets way too early. Some don't even last 2 years! What the F is that about? You have new people coming into Lego every year but you are hosed if you want to, say, collect all the modular buildings. They really should re-release those from time to time

Frankly, I don‘t much care for your fight against Lepin. It is Lego‘s own fault for discontinuing their most awesome products while there is still high demand for them on the market. At least Lepin tries to fill that gap that Lego themselves are unwilling to close. If Lego does not want Lepin to get rich off of counterfeit products mimicking discontinued Lego sets, they only have two things to do: 1. bring back said Lego sets 2. sell their products for reasonable prices It‘s not rocket science.

Yeah but the lepin equivalent is less than half the price. You cant make a scientific comparison if you censor the prices just because "muh counterfeit." Hiding the truth doesnt change it.

honestly this doesn't even approach being a good argument against bootleg sets. first of all, you're buying used pieces and omitting pieces that are outright necessary to the character of the set (e.g. sticker packs) that a clone set would have definitely included. secondly, the shipping from the FOUR different countries you would have sourced those parts from would have surely increased the cost by a significant margin, and even if it didn't you can still get a highly-reviewed knockoff for 88 dollars shipped. and third, most confusingly of all, is that this doesn't support the Lego company in ANY way whatsoever. all of the money goes to opportunistic resellers. there's not even a real ethical argument for doing this besides "Lepin is illegal" which never stopped the prevalence of piracy or shoplifting or any other petty crime that has come as a result of people naming high prices on or limiting/ceasing the production of a product that people want to get their hands on. this ain't it, cheif.

You cannot compare a sealed set, with new parts, minifigs, box and stickers with a 2kg bulk of ++USED++ parts. And I emphasize on "used", I mean "used", can mean dirty, decolored, broken, damaged etc ... Just imagine, you've received the sealed set, and actually, you realize you can't afford it, you'll sell it back roughly the same price. Even after several years, it will keep it's value and even if you open it, you won't loose much. 2kg of use parts, it's worth £20, maybe slightly more because you can build a X-wing, but it's not worth £120.

Or you simply could pay 40 dollars or however much it is on AliExpress for the same set if you just want the set that badly. Free shipping and no sacrifices made. At the end of the day who’s happier? The person who spent 300 dollars or the person who spent 40-50 and got basically the same thing? Remember that these things are toys not investments like stocks or gold. They can depreciate if no one buys them. At least save your money.

Nope, can't think of a better way to get old Lego sets for cheap.

There is no argument that could make me rather buy the 1.500 Euro Lego Executor instead of the 150 Euro Lepin version. Even the used Lego sets on Ebay go for 700+. Either way LEGO already was paid at that point. The huge extra on top of Lego's original pricing when the set was available is just the bonus for the initial buyer.

Thanks to you I can now rebuild my favourite lego set from when I was a child! I have no instruction for it and could not remember what it was called but since you introduced me to bricklink i found both the name of the set and the instructions for it! Thank you so much!

I found on a guy on FB marketplace that says he buys sets in bulk from stores that are returned or damaged boxes. Seems like a good guy, I'm building a huge Avengers compound and can now afford to get the sets I want to add to it (plus China but that can take 6-8 weeks sometimes).

One of my most wanted sets is the 10210 imperial flagship. From bricklink it costs about 700 usd. Buying it piece by piece would cost 1700 usd. While the very same lepin only costs 85 usd. I know it is fake and they stole the idea but in 2010 the original ship was 185 usd. For that price I would gladly buy the set now. But I will not support lego if I buy a used one for 3 times more money. I wish lego would re-release old sets.

This is a mixed bag kinda trick as you don’t know what you’ll get, but here in America there’s thrift stores and antique stores that occasionally have legos that come through there doors. Some of these stores don’t realize or care (more thrift stores) that if they did a little research they can make more money on a sealed LEGO set. Occasionally I’ve found brand new sealed LEGO sets for $10 or less that retailed for over $60 at thrift stores. Specifically one time I found a LEGO bionicle set sealed from 2006 I bought for $5 and turned around and sold on eBay for $85.

Another thing you can do is substitute the colors. I built a version of the Classic Space 928 Galaxy Explorer in black and white instead of blue and grey. Looks sharp.

It's not counterfite. Their copywrite expired about ten years ago. The time when lego went shit and pivoted to Harry Potter sets etc.. They had to do this as they knew their (legal) monopoly was ending, and compitition was coming. Ive never heard of the company you mention, but if its quantity is decent. Cheers for the tip.

Hmmm, I definitely appreciate that you can absolutely save money with this method, but you haven't really told the whole story. You failed to mention that all of the stores you listed were foreign stores. Every order above £15 means you have to pay import duty. And on top of the import duty, is a minimum £8 fee for each. Then you have the postage too. Also, removing lots of the parts? Seriously? If it costs over £300 on eBay, then it's still a huge victory to get it for £150-200. I don't feel you needed to scrimp as much as you did by omitting parts. The Lepin version costs £55, so still half the price of even the method you used. That said, at least your official LEGO only appreciates in value. Lepin is worthless now and worthless in the future. But I do wonder if a set comprised of parts you bought this way, is worth the same as an actual set.
@DrJakesVeryBritishReviews6 жыл бұрын
Hang on a sec... I don't have to pay import duty if the stores are in the EU. I only omitted the stickers and a minifigure, so I wouldn't say that's "lots" of parts. But I do agree that it may not retain its value in the same way as a full set.
