Thank you for the informative video. One thing to note is that while Munis may be tax exempt, the interest income does add to your MAGI for IRMAA assessments for those 65 and older and on Medicare.

@@peaceandjoytoall IRMAA stands for Income Related Monthly Adjustment Amount which is a Medicare surcharge based on one's MAGI (Modified Adjusted Gross Income) if your income is above certain thresholds. Even though you may have tax exempt interest income, it does get added back to your MAGI.

I was just on the Schwab site minutes before you posted the video. I had rolled over my 401k to an IRA and needed to find an investment. The problem I saw with Muni's and Corporate Bonds was they were all callable. I called Schwab's fixed income advisors and they were very good pointing out things I had not considered or not understood. I wound up buying a 20yr Gov Bond on the secondary market. It'll give my IRA a nice income stream every six months that will auto-transfer into Schwab's money fund (SWVXX) that is currently paying 5.26%.

@@jasonweishaupt1828 I have bought I-bonds and a 3yr bond from that site. But the 20yr auction is next week and if I understand correctly I won't know what interest rate I'll get until after the auction. I got slightly burned on my 3yr bond, the rate was less than I expected.

I think I'm in the same camp as thinking the long duration treasury yield should go beyond 5%. I keep most of mine in T-bills with duration 3 months to 1 year. Only about 3% invested in TLT and selling covered calls to generate more incomes. I'll wait for Fed to signal rate reduction before adding more to long treasury bonds.

It seems it's easier to buy munis on the secondary market. Then you know the yield to maturity and can buy them with a shorter maturity between 6-12 years and 5% yield.

The Vanguard Muni Fund (VWITX) 30-day yield is 4% (Expense Ratio=.17%). So you're getting a higher yield buying individual Muni bonds (higher even considering the ER). Is that always the case?
