Very helpful. I'm now 66 and recently retired and as I'm single I'm considering returning to trying out skiing next season. I have only done a tiny amount of green run skiing on the Nevis Range with the Warrington Ski Club around 40 years ago. I still have some post retirement redecorating jobs to do in my apartment, so if they aren't done this year I'll be looking at the 2024/5 season. As for ski's, first job will be to get my own books, as rented boots will have had n feet in them before they see mine. As for beginner ski's my first holiday will be rental, and then I'll have to consider buying my own beginner ski's so I won't have to get used to different ski's ever time I go on holiday, and I can get a consistent feel how my ski's perform, and of course it possibly help me to progress to my desired goal of intermediate and able to comfortably tackle red runs, and of course when or IF I reach that stage I can change beginner ski's and boots for intermediate ones. I'm not in the US, but there is a dedicated ski shop complex - Snow + Rock :Manchester - 20 minutes driving from where I live. I'll be going there next Wednesday to have a look and see what prices I'm looking at for initially getting re-started.

Are K2 True love skis good for beginners?
@Curatedcom
@Curatedcom 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Sally, Curated ski expert Charlotte here! The K2 True Luvs are great skis for beginner to intermediate level women who are spending most of their time on groomers. Their softer tips will help you initiate turns easily and learn to carve. They also have a vibration dampening system that will help reduce chatter as you start skiing faster down groomers. I'd love to help you pick out the perfect pair of skis for your specific needs for this winter! If you'd like to work together, send me a message at www.curated.com/experts/charlotte.h and we can chat further!

Is that ski height barefoot or with ski boots on?
@Curatedcom
@Curatedcom 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Kyle, Curated ski expert Charlotte here! You can size these with or without ski boots on - the 10cm rule is really just an estimate and a general range, rather than a hard and fast rule to abide by. Shoot me a message at www.curated.com/experts/charlotte.h and I can help you make sure you get the right size for your height, weight, and ski level! Cheers!

i just tried skiing for the first time the other day with rental gear, it felt like the boots and ski's were super heavy and it was really hard to get them to turn, is that normal or was it probably just bad rental gear? Additionally im definitely shorter and weigh much less than most others

I know this was 7 months ago but with the 2021-22 season starting here in Colorado, wanted to give you my opinion based on the bit of context you gave; It was both the rental gear and the fact that you were skiing for the first time! Must have gone pretty well due to having some natural talent because your 2 complaints on day one were ones I've heard advanced skiers say. "the skis are too heavy rental guys! I need something better for my skill level and carving!". Your average complaints from someone after their first day are like "I just kept falling and couldn't even do a "pizza" from my French fries so I lost control speeding down a black diamond I didn't mean to go down, my butt hurts, and my feet were cold." That said lol, without knowing exactly what your height weight boot size along with what the rental shop gave you I can't tell you which part, you being a brand new skier or the gear, was the main issue. I can again though say it 1000% both of those things on some level. As a first time skier, boots alone are going to feel heavy. Heck they always feel heavy no matter how much you ski haha. Quick note on boot fit: a PERFECT fit, your toes should be barely touching the front of your boots NOT CURLING though. Then after getting into a ski stance of leaning forward at the waist putting weight forward on the balls of your feet with knees bent, your toes should go from barely touching the end of boot to sliding back just enough to where your they stop touching the boot. Ski boots will never be truly "comfy" but don't judge your boots when walking, only when skiing in a good stance as thats when the boots need to perform and feel right. Last thing on boots, you'll never get rentals that feel right compared to new boots custom fitted. Which i recommend doing even if expensive because your feet drive the skis and boots hold your feet if they are wrong or super uncomfortable you're gonna have a bad time guaranteed. As for the skis, for a beginner they shouldn't have been taller than your chin preferably, definitely not as tall or taller than you are. If either of those last 2 were the case, then the rental shop gave you the wrong size, period. Shorter skis = less weigh and easier to turn opposite for longer. Unless powder conditions and even then, they shouldn't have been super wide under foot. Should have been skinny just barely larger than your boot or near the same when looking at the top of them while your clicked into your bindings. Last little tidbit, going super slow like slower than a run or jog it will be very hard to turn your skis and will absolutely feel heavier than if you were going faster which makes turning easier and the feel for the weight of them almost leaves your mind as the hill/snow/momentum starts doing most of the work for you. That's all I got! If this doesn't help the OP here hopefully just one person will come across this comment and know what to look and ask for. BTW: Don't hesitate to ask your boot/ski fitter at the rental shop why they are giving you what they are giving you and bring the gear back if you don't think something is right. Any decent shop should take care of your issues, unless it's like Christmas eve/day or spring break chaos or something lol. Why my response is worth anything? I worked at a rental shop in Beaver Creek and Vail for 3 years and been in the ski and snowboard industry for over 8 years. (Hopefully be a Curated expert as well here in the near future 🤙So if you go to their site, look for Matt "Lindy" Lindenschmidt as I just love helping people and to be a ski/snowboard bum a little money IS needed believe it or not. HOPE EVERYONE HAS A SICK (not talking about you rona, go away) AS WELL AS SAFE, 21-22 SEASON! Good vibes, love, prayers to you all! Cheers, -Matt

@@JesusNOTreLIEgion I am going to take a screen shot and use this. I am also a beginner, and last season I went towards the end of the season and all thats left was more ice, it hurt real bad when I fell down hahhaha. ofcourse, I had not taken any real lesson or even information regarding it, but I am very fascinated with the sport and will definitely go again but with my own gear this time. Rentals were damaged, and boot and gear I got was definitely not good after I went through your comment. Thank you very much! -Pratik.

I'm 150 cm tall but I use my dads 173 cm long skis. It's more fun because it's more of a challenge then riding the correct size. And it is faster.

10 cm lower would be 195 cm, there are really limited selection for me and skies that are 195 are more for advanced skiers :-(

Hey there, curated ski expert Charlotte here! I wouldn’t worry too much about having skis that are exactly 10cm shorter than your height. If you are about 6’5 or so, your skis as a beginner should range from 172-180cm, give or take. Anything over 185cm is going to be really tough to maneuver and stay forward on. I would love to help you narrow down your options and get set up with some gear this winter! Shoot me a message on curated at www.curated.com/experts/charlotte.h and we can find the perfect setup for you! :)
