the trouble with testing out fragrances in department stores, especially here in london is i always feel like you are being rushed by the sales assistants so you don't get a good gauge on how the fragrance actually smells.
@philosophicalinquirer3126 жыл бұрын
Quite true. Variations are widespread - from "free to hang around" to totally pestered and annoying to highest degree. ...and also depends on when and who in the same department store ! Eg One local boots pharmacy literally leaves you alone to test pretty much everything - even expensive lines, for as long as you want. Another - bothers you. Likewise with John Lewis, where I have sprayed quite a generous amount of Creed ! ....but depends when !
@scentmonk73246 жыл бұрын
In the town where i live, my local boots leaves all the cabinets open on a saturday, so you are free to test whatever you want. i just find when i go to london i get the problem with sales assistants pestering me

Thanks for another very informative video. From what I saw here it is obvious that I have been going about my sampling in the wrong way. This is good to know and I will definitely do it this way the next time and see how much of a difference it makes over the way I do iy now.

This is awesome . I wish this was up two weeks back lol. I had just made one of those purchases , after a marathon testing session and like you mentioned ended up with one which I initially liked but it was all Top note only and after that I could hardly make out what it smelled like . Thank you for this !!

This is a very valuable and important information for any picky perfume lover who are on a hunt to acquire a good personal favourite perfume. Especially people like us in UAE where we are bombarded with the opportunity to test perfumes from any walks of daily life.

Very good video. I didn't had a video like this when I was a beginner so I had to learn it the hard way. One more advice I could add is that if you really like a scent and you've tested it once, just wait a few days or weeks and test it again. You will find out that we get bored of fragrances really fast. (that was the case for me at least) The same is true with a fragrance that you don't like, give it another try after a while, maybe you will appreciate it more.

Good video Brother I've been sampling at least twelve scents at a time and they always smell different after buying, I'm using your method moving forwards.

Can you make a video (more towards the basics) contrasting the concepts of notes, accords and families; further contrasted with linear and Non-Linear fragrances?! Im sort of familiar with these concepts but I'm still having a hard time making some of these connections (e.g. is the citrus family another way of saying that is an accord? Is is an accord an entirely different concept from that of families?). I don't have a well developed nose as of yet but at least if I could make the connections and understand the science or theory I might be able to. I love how you articulate these topics so I hope you will do a video on it. Thank's

I test perfumes on paper, and more daring scents on skin, because the scent can vary tremendously from paper to skin. i spray some perfume on a large piece of paper and i wave the paper in front of my nose : this simulates the sillage and projection of the perfume. I never smell it upclose the nose to the paper, that's not how a perfume works. A perfume dissipates into the air and that's what you smell,

Bro..this is exactly i select my perfumes. i keep them for hour or so..in different pockets..in bags..trousers..i label them with price too😂..I went to ajmal stores..2 days ago and bought 2 perfumes..will visit them again for attars. Just want to mention one thing bhai..i smelled pure or only oudh at ajmal.. that oud smell is really different(not in good sense)..but when same oudh mixed with other materials..it gives altogether different perspective of oudh. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I will request you to be active on your other Hindi channel so that we can learn about perfumes available in india.

Most KZbin frag reviewers need to watch this. This is how I've done it for 30yrs, sales assistants hate me. It makes me laugh when I see some of them opening a whole line they've been sent, spraying them in the air in the same place, then on paper and shoving it to their nostrils, five scents in a ten minute video and followers hanging on their every word. 🤣
@davidthom71275 жыл бұрын
I hear and respect what you are saying but in my opinion spraying on cards can be very misleading and can be like viewing a painting at a weirdly acute angle.

What is fatigue you were taking about?
@philosophicalinquirer3126 жыл бұрын
Olfactory fatigue - basically desensitization of the ability to smell or distinguish fine nuances in the scents. Same applies to all sensory modalities - but Olfactory is more sensitive than the rest. Next is probably taste. Trying out different foods with delicate tastes after a strong curry is not going to be very interesting. Visual fatigue is also common eg when going to an art museum and enjoying various paintings, but a few hours of this and you begin not caring a damn or able to contrast the fine details - it all becomes boring. Same with any high impact visual scenery. Same with VR experiences. Same with having lights too bright. Similar with sounds and touch. The basics for this are found in the biology of nerve impulse action potentials at the sensory receptors and how the brain processes these signals. In some cases it is the sensory receptor itself and how it fires a signal, in other cases its how the brain processes the signal and its various pathways to different parts of the brain.
