I am Breeding dogs and I see COI in the dogs pedigrees and that is why I want to learn about it. 😊 By the way in the second example should the answer be 1/64? Or am I wrong?

Thank you for your video I really enjoy learning about genetics. I have a question. Say I wanted to systematically check every individual recessive allele in an individual mouse. It's my understanding that you could use line breeding to increase the inbreeding coefficient. So breeding daughter back to father after 5 or more generations should bring you close to 100% coefficient. And at that point majority of the genes would be homozygous. Now say instead I made a cross between two unrelated mice. And then I took 5 daughters from that one pairing and bred them all back to the father. In theory the majority (near 100%) of the fathers alleles would be represented as homozygous across all grandchildren children but the inbreeding coefficient of each individual would only be 25%. Is this correct?

Great explanation. But I have a question. What if the common ancestor appears multiple times in the pedigree? For example: A appears on the fathers as the great grandfather but on mother's side as the father AND grea great grandfather. How would I count that? As one sire appears three times in a pedigree? Do I only take the closest one to the mother so the father?

What does it mean when the numbers are bigger or lower? I mean in your example baby no2 is 1/32 and baby no3 is 1/16 . Dose it mean that baby no3 is inherting more from thier parents and ancestors ? Dose it have anything to do with passing and pushing harmful genetics?
@GeneticsLessons7 жыл бұрын
The bigger the number the bigger probability to inherit SAME allele . Say probability 1/16 is bigger than 1/32.
