Let's be honest though, if you ever want a legitimate example of something in math that 99+ percent of people will never need to know, this is a pretty good one. It's actually a challenge to think of scenarios in the real world where this would be used.

As a 12th grade English teacher, I use it to analyze data after students have taken a test. It helps to inform my teaching. I can see what areas my students show strength in and what areas need remediation. I can also detect where there might be questions with bias on tests. I sometimes find there is bias when calculating scores for ELL students, African American students, special education students, and even gender bias in certain questions or on the exam as a whole.
