Yes, there are 2 formulae....population data means we know all the actual data and actual mean value...then we can use denominator as n. However, if there is any real life data, it is impossible to get the complete picture, we can only take a sample,that is sample data...then we keep denominator as n-1..... I think it should be mentioned in the question if it is sample data or population data for us to decide which formula to use..pls let me know if u have any questions

Well,it's definitely not used by customers to calculate price ..but it's surely used to study variations in sales and profits of different super markets in an area...wherever you want to study how much the data is varying about the average value, standard deviation is very useful .. statistics is mostly very useful for analysis at the back end and accordingly modify the approach and output.....pls let me know if you have any questions...
