Do you calibrate it with the trailer brakes set or released? Like air the system up then keep the brakes released or set them then calibrate?

Technically the weight would shift some when brakes are released so keeping released would be the best method.

I was taught to not recalibrate unless weight on trailer was at least 30k for accuracy???

For best accuracy it should be calibrated at both empty and max weight. We unfortunately had a light trailer when filming this video.

Per the manual, over 35k to calibrate. Sad, no one writes down calibration weights or dates. Picked up a lot of trailers with nothing written on the right weight.

The one in side of truck should i push the breaks in and change the gauge or should i turn of the truck and change the gauge ?

I’m torn. Yes, it’s valuable to know how to calibrate the scales, but unless someone is fully aware of all the nuances involved I’d recommend against beginners calibrating the scale. Otherwise they could be unknowingly throwing a calibrated scale out of calibration. For example, a lot of drivers will need to park their truck in order to go inside to retrieve the scale ticket. It would not be accurate to calibrate the scale with the truck in a different location from where it was scaled, due to an incline or having the brakes set. You would need to leave the parking spot and return the truck to the scale to accurately calibrate the on board scale to the weight on the ticket. (Having the CAT scale app avoids this issue since the driver doesn’t need to park in order to see the weight.)

Where do you set the tandems? To the front or rear of trailer?

The axels can be in any position when recalibrating.
