The best call beginners can blow is nothing except scouting. See where they generally want to be at on a body of water. Put out half a dozen decoys, have motion on the water, hide,hide,hide, kill ducks. Very rarely do ducks sit around screaming at every bird that flies by. Most time theyre just chilling.

Sit out, watch how birds naturally work, then start calling after you learn what's normal looking or abnormal as far as body language and movements goes. Then start calling when you see them look intetested.

I've been wanting to get into waterfowl. My late father left behind his acrylic duck call. I tried it once last year and all the ducks scrambled to the next county. I'll try the two calls you demo'd. Thanks!

You might want to start with a cheap $20 call. The Acrylic is certainly the better tool, but depending on the design, it could take more skills to get the simple beginner sound you want.

I absolutely 💯 % agree with you on all of this information. The one thing I would add and is almost impossible to mess up, and that is the Duck Whistle. And with that my absolute favorite Thind to do with it is a Drake Call and the Teal “ Peep”. I have called in more Ducks with these 2 Calls and the occasional 2-4 Note Quacks than anything else. Even when Ducks had passed by and I done a Drake Call or 2 and a Quack or Teal Peep and they would swing around for a second look 👀.

Hate to be “that” guy, but I have to. Hit is not the best word to use. Hut, Hot and hat are all better choices. The reason is because it is hot air. Think of fogging a mirror. The hot air gives a much fuller sound to the call. I DO use hit for a quick, excited chop chop call. But quacks and cadences you want the fuller sound. And by changing the vowels, you can sound like 4 different ducks.

Hey Bret, half of what you just wrote is going to be like trying to figure out Latin for new hunters. You're two steps, maybe two years, ahead of the target audience for this video. You aren't wrong at all, but it's just too much too fast. I remember watching videos and getting advice like yours when I started duck hunting, I just scratched my head and moved on. New folks need the simplest possible starting point to get out there and do something and learn, gain experience, to get the point where they are able to understand more nuanced advice.
