They recently patched the steam version of this - it worked on my newer PC, so might be worth a look? However, there's a weird program called dxwnd- it's a utility for making old games work. It's not exactly easy to use, but with it i got desperados working (before they patched the steam version to make it unnecessary). Try searching for "desperados dxwnd" and you might get somewhere? Such a fun old game :)

If you buy the Steam pack you get both 1 and 2 for like 5 or 7 euros. I got a latest windows and a beast of a PC and it runs everything fine. A company called THQNordic bought the IP to some old game and patched them to run on the latest machines. Good times playing these old games
