How to Care For A New Easter Cactus!
I stumbled upon Easter Cactus at Walmart and I decided to add 2 of them to my collection.
I will show you in this video how I care for and treat a new Easter Cactus and introduce it to my home. I want to prevent gnats, and spiders and ensure that the new plant does not infect any of my existing plants.
With a little care and attention it will make a beautiful addition.

My cactus is blooming... 😁 It is a Christmas cactus but it is blooming now and I am so excited. My grandma always had Christmas cactus that bloomed beautifully but I was never able to keep them alive let alone have a bloom, until now.

Do you only use coffee to fertiluze them? I was going to use Neptune's Harvest Rose and flowering on mine. I used some last year on my Easter Cactus and it responded really well. I have found that the Easter Cactus shows you if it is happy or not much quicker than the Christmas or Thanksgiving Cacti.Do you have a fertilizer schedule? I love holiday cacti too. Just subscribed.

Yes a rose fertilizer is perfect as well. I would fertilize monthly to keep them healthy and strong. I used a general fertilizer on mine recently cause that's what I had on hand but a specific rose fertilizer would be even better. Your definitely on the right track.

What is your advice for watering this type of cactus? Should I place the pot in a tray with water in it, or should I water from above ? Thank you! I have just subscribed! 😊

Hi Ariana welcome to the channel. I would water it from the bottom and let it soak up the water then you don’t get root rot. If you pot it up water from the top initially to get rid of air pockets then switch to watering from the bottom. If it has gnats by watering from the bottom the eggs will die. Give it a good drink probably once a month u less the clads looks shrivelled then water it if a month is to long. Put it in a place where it gets some bright indirect light and it will last for years. Let me know how you make out. Mine are all in a west window where I live they seem to love the west window and bloom periodically.

It’s very bright red. I found white and pink ones yesterday. I didn’t buy any figured I have enough cactus lol running out of space.

What is the square node at the bottom of the flower? What is the purpose??

The stems are made up of clades right from the base of the plant you can buy these plants in various sizes. So it depends what size you buy. These plants do get bigger over time their stems get longer and they flower by forming buds on the ends of the clades. The clades can be picked off the end of stems and propagated to make new plants.

After rooting a new plant..why do you repot

Yes I do. I try to put them in a small clay pot until they fill the pot with roots which takes a couple years.

I like to move them to a pot where they can remain for a few years. I also like to display them in my window with other cactuses in different colours.
