I think what Most Folks don’t realize is that if They want big leaves it must have full light. I didn’t say Sun I said light. They grow in the bright shady area. And depending on the time of year they may die back and the pot will look empty, but the plant isn’t dead, just dormant. Keep it in the shade until spring, soil moist until say March and like an Amaryllis they’ll spring out of the soil. Most times more vigorously as before and sprouting a number of babies. Don’t give up, but don’t await big leaves with moderate light.Fortunately here in Germany they aren’t so expensive, 10€, but the hidden bonus from these plants is that in the soil they have little bulbs that are actually the babies before they sprout through the soil. If you let them go to root then You have a whole new plant. So if Your plant dies back, go through the soil and get Your new baby. Thanks for the video. Always learning something from You.

Very nice explanation sir. Thank you for sharing this! months ago namatay and natuyo yung black velvet ng mother ko dhl one time nakapagdilig nya water with pabango bottle. Sobrang nanghinayang ako kc I love how the black velvet looks, but then I tried to bring it outdoor, and still water it everyday kahit lupa nalang sila and after doing it for months nagulat ako may bunga na leaves na ulit!! Im so happy dahil may pagasa pa palang mabuhay kht matagal and now I really want to take care of them. This is so helpful. Thank you!

Tnx for this vlog. I have may black velvet less in than a week now. I fell in love with it the moment I saw it on FB and told my wife how I love to have it. And, she bought it for me. However, I have zero knowledge about it. This video would be of great help. I hope I can propagate it successfully and of course keep it gorgeous longer.

I've also seen people use a clean disposable chopstick to check the soil! You simply stick it in and if it comes out brown and with little pieces of dirt it's still ok for a couple of days, if it's just a bit dirty maybe wait for a day and if its dry it's time to water! It's similar to when you stick a sewer stick in a cake to see if it's cooked 🌻

New subscriber here. I love caladiums and alocasias. I had the chance to live in Misamis Occidental (in Oroquieta City) from 1983 to 1985. Ang gaganda ng mga plants doon maybe because of the climate. Yung mga caladiums sa ilalim ng mga puno lumalaki mga dahon. Yung white caladium minsan medyo translucent pa ang leaves kapag lumaki. I am beginning to grow caladiums and alocasias here in my home in Iloilo. I will be getting my first Black Velvet this weekend. Thanks for sharing tips.
