Did you ever figure out how to carry a lunch tray? I have standard crutches and dont wanna drop my lunch everywhere😭

Im trying to figure it out too
@nina.robbs5657 ай бұрын
@@asciidudehonestly, the only way I can think to carry them is to have a strap that attaches to your arm, so you can let go of the crutch and carry the tray with one hand, but that doesn't really work with standard crutches

I need those kind of crutches. I’ve got the kind that goes under the arms. Mine are a bit short which is good because I squeeze them into my sides so I don’t put pressure into my lymphatics. I’ve been on crutches for 9+ months and counting. A horse stepped on my foot almost a year ago. I’ve been waiting to see if it would heal without surgery. My lisfranc ligament and nerves were crushed. Apparently I had broken bones that had healed prior to getting x rays. I tried to “walk it off” for 2 months. I’ve gotten pretty talented as I’ve done auto mechanics; new radiator, oil change, struts, lower ball joints, etc. I’ve got a gorilla cart that I pull fully loaded with a dog walking belt and lead. I used the same apparatus and ratchet strap to drag two struts in boxes to my other vehicle with another bag loaded with tools around my neck. You’re pretty talented, too, I see!

Wow! So freaking helpful. I'm a newly hip amputee as well and I'm still learning how to do things with crutches. I'm so wobbly with forearm crutches so I use underarm crutches for now. Thanks for the tips

RESPECT!!!! I am recovering from two broken legs and am on crutches. On my own and having to push a plate of hot food in a plastic container across the floor, using sticks like football legs is not easy. Watching you helped so much. Thank you.

I'm coming up on my 40th year using forearm crutches, AKA. I personally never hang anything off of my crutch handle, the swinging (inertia) just gets too wonky. When it comes to carry bags, the shorter the handle strap the better for more control. And like any typical man, you must unload the groceries all in one trip. No exceptions. 😛 Keep on crutchin', Josh!
@squeegie-beckenheim12 жыл бұрын
Josh, you were totally pickin' stuff up and leaving it halfway across the house. Corn Chex? On the piano! Shoebox? Toss it on the counter! I was surprised that you didn't just put the rocking chair in the kitchen.

This is really helpful thanks! I have chronic fatigue, and have been stupidly using a walking stick (apparently they're better suited to balance issues) to get the weight off my legs (which is where my fatigue hits me the hardest), so now I'm looking at crutches. Even with the WS I've been struggling to carry things without a backpack, so this video is great and will help me with my WS until I can get the crutches.

Looping things around fingers is great too! My friends mock me for drinking everything out of mugs, but it means I can carry them at least ^_^ I love the last 'really awkward crab hop'. I especially use if I want someone else give me a hand, but don't want to ask. And when in doubt, abandon your crutches and shuffle on your bum!

For the cereal box, rather than have the box awkwardly suspended out from the tip of the handle, I prefer to hold the middle of the box top between thumb & middle finger, placing one 'edge' of the box against the shaft for more stability of the box and a more complete grip on the handle. For the loop handle bag, it is sometimes more stable (less wagging as I walk) to put the loops around the shaft in opposite directions, one or more times before hooking them onto the handle. This effort is worth it for longer trips, and can keep the bag from swinging around to interfere with leg or crutch movement. (Sometimes, of course, I just wrap the handles or even the neck of the bag around the handle & grab the whole mess, sometimes forcing the contents to be pushed back against the outside of the crutch.) Another trick is to put the handle(s) over one side of the crutch forearm clasp, so the bag/stringed package hangs against the back of my hand, giving me more swing control. (I keep a couple of nylon string loops (1' & 3') which I store hanging inside the shaft, hooked on the forearm clasp.) Another trick for big or bulky items is to use a string or sheet to hang it over my back, with both ends over one or opposite shoulders to again grip in my hand(s) or with a little more effort, hook around the top of the/each crutch. Of course, for trips, pants, & vest cargo pockets, belt pouch, fanny pack, & backpack also have their uses. Thanks for the stream of consciousness hints, but you really should be more gracious to your co-star (at least on stage ;-) ).

Good video. It's not intuitive. Looking for one of these for under arm crutches. I can use that bag one with handles. That's good idea. I figured out a slim bag that goes around my heck to move some books and paperwork. Still seeking more solutions. Thanks for posting.

Replying to this 6 years later cos same issue that’s some great ideas, Jezrael. With micro meals I could put them into Tupperware or similar if I can get some probably around somewhere and carry it upstairs covered. It MIGHT work. I have help with the carrying ATM but I’ve been trying to think of backup plans just in case that goes away
