Good stuff! Just got back on Tele's today for the first time in many years Don't have a lot experience maybe a dozen outings many years ago. My takeaway today, being on modern equipment (modern ski, stiffer boot, setp in binding) is I can ski it more like Alpine Dominant pressure on the outside ski gives you grip and carve, and the balance to dial in what you want on the inside ski Outside ski felt like alpine. Carving on softer snow was easier than I expected. I tended on this quite easy snow to not retract the inside ski very far whether that is ideal or not.

Best tele tips of all time! My opinions: Tip 2 recap is the most important of all, and the position shown at :54. It's the foundation of good tele skiing. Lot's of ways to do it but without this position tele skiing cannot be done well. Most of the errors I see on the hill stem from this, including my own skiing. If you can't get your uphill hand forward it's a telltale sign. Drive the uphill had forward to get the correct upper body position, that's how I think of it when I ski.

This video helped me so much. Long story : I was on my second last day of telemarking during winter holiday in France. I'm quite good on blue and red slopes, but still having trouble going into steep icy black slopes, also trouble with off slope telemarking in bad snow and powder. I use a meidjo 3.0 with alpine heel , this way I can cheat and lock the heel when its too hard for me . Then this video pops up in my feed, I watch it , and at 1:34 I get the revelation ! I imediately go back to the slopes, and there you go, free heel in steep icy black slope, with all my weight on my front leg. Same for off slope skiing, finaly nailed it thanks to correcting my body position (I mostly learned telemarking alone). Next time, I'll work on the back knee thing. Thanks and greetings from France !

Hi René, I've been watching your videos for several years now, at first they just appeared on my searches, then I started to consciously check Absolutetelemark on my gear and technique researches. After the years I can say that your advice is great and I thank you for it, it's quite likely the best on available online, comprehensive, precise, not biased and fun to watch. Getting a pair of Meidjo bindings (where you are perhaps a bit biased but for good reason) was the best gear decision I've made and you helped me confirm what otherwise would have been an intuitive and emotional decision. Thank you, and keep it up!!

@@Absolutetelemark I gotta tell you Rene, this tip in particular (along with the last couple) have *really* helped me progress my technique. You are so right, the “big toe little toe” thing is a good descriptor, but doesn’t say anything about how to achieve the sensation. As soon as I started to pay attention to angling the inside knee toward the snow, then I felt the little toe pressure!

Standing up vs staying low between turns? For me, I ski with much better balance and technique when I stay low.

Staying low is very tiring, and not so great in moguls(its a long way up and down. Also staying low is how I learned on old cobra bindings. NTN is better more upright for me; much less tiring now that I am older!
