Thanks for sharing this. My son and I are up here right now with family friends and plan to fish either Ship, or Bird Creek tomorrow and the next day! Caught a nice 16 pounder in Whittier yesterday. Silver, that is.

Wow 1 fish. Hope your populations come back however they need to. Commercial fishing I imagine? I've had a blast going up to Michigan in the fall and hitting the King run out of the lake. I don't know what their limits are there but it's more than one. Maybe 3 or so? I've never kept any of them. I'm a picky fish eater and salmon isn't on my list. They are definitely on my fun catch list though!

This is my idea of fishing, the guiet, the solitude, being at one with nature.

I Hooked up a huge one yesterday, but it snapped off where I tied my hook.

Don't be like me and lose fish. If you use the bobber method. Don't set the hook until it goes under. The fish will normally play with it first before taking a bite

How are you supposed to measure potential jacks if you can't take fish out of the water? Strange rules.

Is it single Barbless Hooks in Alaska? it is in British Columbia for all rivers and Ocean
@Stormvue8 жыл бұрын
Depends on where you're fishing. In ship creek you're allowed to use 2 hooks with barbs.
@sdpy158 жыл бұрын
BC has single barbless hooks in all rivers/creeks and if you are fishing for salmon.

Do you need specific licence in Alaska? You cant come up from Texas with a licence here right.
@michaelteague92305 жыл бұрын
You are correct. You can go online and get a non-resident license and king stamp.

please go back through your loop after the knot shown at 1.30-1.50. YOu will lose fish otherwise
@tristannyman13187 жыл бұрын
Not true. I've caught plenty of kings at ship creek using just a clinch knot; an improved clinch is not necessary.
@Re3iRtH7 жыл бұрын
Tristan Nyman Do you know which part of ship creek is displayed in the video? I went end of May and it seemed like most of the creek was off limits.

Good video, but I never understand why people use such heavy line for salmon, I used medium action rods with 8 lb test for both kings and steelhead and iv never broke off a fish
@BlackJackGSD9 жыл бұрын
+Adam Miller One of the reason is people density, you really don't have room play a fish at ship creek, you have to horse the fish in or your going to be in a tangled mess.
@adammiller48799 жыл бұрын
+BlackJackGSD that makes a lot more sense to me now
@mikevrabel53498 жыл бұрын
+Adam Miller 8 lb for Kings, LMAO!
@adammiller48798 жыл бұрын
+Chris Sharpe yeah, just about everyone I know doesn't go higher than 10lb test unless fishing chocolate milk water with fast current.
@mikevrabel53498 жыл бұрын
In Alaska, Ive never known anyone to not use at least 20 lb test for Kings. I sure as hell don't want no 8 lb if I hook a 30+lber.
