How to Catch Albies with a Casting Egg and Fly (Splasher and Fly)

When albies are picky, it can be challenging to catch them with conventional techniques. In these situations, a fly can provide a more realistic presentation that is more likely to get bites. Fishermen using spinning tackle are able to present a fly to false albacore with the help of a casting egg. Jimmy Fee demonstrates how to use the casting egg and fly (also called the splasher and fly) technique to fool false albacore.

Thanks for sharing Jimmy! I went to the Goose just before and after StriperFest and bought a Shimano 3000 reel and 7.6 rod, plus some albie snacks, epoxy jigs and a few others, thing casts a mile but, it was a battle with the wind on the jettys. For windy days like this, are there any other recommendations you can make for lures? Go heavier, use metals, etc?

Hey Kelly - a crosswind can be tough with any lure, because of the big bow in the line, but one of my favorites for windy, rough days is the 1-ounce Game On EXO jig. I've been using metals less and less in recent years. The Shimano Coltsnipers are good ones though, so are the 1-ounce Daddy Mac Albie/Bonito Jigs. Even from shore, I rarely go heavier than 1 ounce for albies. That sounds like a perfect setup for albies. What line did you put on it?

@@OnTheWaterMedia I was using 15lb braid, Goose's house choice, plus Daiwa 20lb flourocarbon leader, direct tied.

For some reason.. the 2024 season waa non existent in CT. 2023 was top notch though - so that's the pattern sometimes i guess
