How to Catch Celebi in Pokemon Gold/Silver (Coin case glitch)

This glitch only works in the English version of Gold/Silver. It does not work in Crystal. According to: glitchcity.inf...
To perform the glitch:
PREPARATION
-Put the listed items in your PC in the exact order and quantities.
-Get a Quagsire holding HP Up with Sleep Talk as its first move in your 4th party slot
-Some low-level freshly caught Pokemon in your 3rd slot. If the glitch doesn't work try some different Pokemon.
-Any Pokemon in your first party slot. This will become Celebi. Move sets and shininess transfer to the Celebi.
EXECUTION
-Save and reboot the game just inside Professor Elm's lab
-Walk down (through Elm's lab door to the outside) and 4 spaces right
-Listen to Machop's cry in the Pokedex
-Access your coin case, making sure to change bag pockets at least once
-Fly to Goldenrod
-Go to the daycare and give your first Pokemon to the lady.
-Take the Pokemon back and it will be a Celebi!
-To get the Celebi entry in your Pokedex trade the Celebi to another game cartridge and back to the original.

It might have been mentioned by a Nintendo rep when they were talking about the game in more detail. I am pretty sure that if it was talked about by a rep back in the day, it was one of the first few things that they would have made sure to mention. It was probably would have been in an interview with them talking about the very beginning of the game. I believe that I might have saw this exact interview but I was nowhere near the point of the game needed to obtain the technical machine to be able to connect the dots. I actually believe that the game actually tells you this exact information throughout the routes and pathways up to the daycare in the game. All the game should.care is that the items in the exact slot order, so traded TMs should possibly work as well.

Nintendo already explained how to do it exactly in an interview which I no longer remember where I found it at anymore. It is hard to say how long they intually took to figure it out. I actually believe they coded it into the game via the routes up to that point while they still remembered what it was exactly thar they needed to do in the game. I forgot for a really long time now. I was nowhere near the point of the game to even get the TM in the game to make it fully stick to save it somewhere after I read it.

i tried it but when i open the coin case it 1-becomes black screen with beeeeep, or 2- restarts to logo screen with mixed colors. maybe the mistake is the fresh caught pokemon as you said. (i used a weedle).....what am i doing wrong?

i tried with a different "fresh caught pkmn" and after 3 different ones it worked finally!!! now after 18 years i finally got a Celebi on Gen 2 games!!!

so everything in this video is correct for the items but I tried over 30 times with level two and three Pidgey and the ferrets Pokemon so what works for me is level 4 Pidgey and you don't have to keep on catching fresh ones you can use that same level for Pidgey mine was female and then make sure any Pokemon in the first lot is the Pokemon you want to get rid of it would turn into the Celebi butt I found out whatever moves were on the Pokemon goes to that Celebi and for the people's questions about it in your Pokedex it will not be because it will be coming from the daycare you're not catching it so if you want it in your Pokedex just traded over to the file you want or trade it back and then it'll be in your Pokedex I've use the same level 4 Pidgey and whatever first Pokemon 4 times in a row and got Celebi I got Celebi with aeroblast I had Lugia learn through Pokemon Stadium 2 with Pokemon Gold silver red and blue I don't know why people can't explain it easy like that I feel for you guys having the same issue I had so with this knowledge I decided to share gotta catch em all 386 and Lucario Darkrai cuz they were supposed to be in Hoenn and Infernape because he's the shit everyone else fuck off Giratina you all right hope that last one is spelled correctly using mic Mew is the real God all hail Mewtwo

According to this page: glitchcity.info/wiki/Coin_Case_glitch it only works in the English versions of Gold and Silver, and doesn't work in any version of Crystal :/ Sorry!

It does not work on Pokemon Crystal because they had the time to fully analyze all their notes that they already did for celebi stats, as well probably get to the bottom of the code that was injected into Pokemon Gold and Silver during development. They did however adjust the game with all of the information that they had during that time.

I don't know for sure since I can't test it on the German version myself but the link in the description reckons it works ONLY on the English version of Gold/Silver and no other versions. Sorry :/

You could find someone who has a legit Celebi and trade for it, but the event for Celebi in GSC was a Japan-only event many years ago and I doubt they'll redistribute any Pokemon to the old games.

Oh, even though i have Kingdra in VBA and not Celebi (i got Kingdra by trading in TGB Dual and somehow i did something and now i have Kingdra in VBA). Then, i am going to try Celebi glitch but Sneasel is hard to find.

The GS ball was only made available through a service that has already ended in Japan for a really long time now with no plans to renew the service at least through the sources that I found covering the topic vaguely.

Nintendo made sure that the technical machines could be traded over from another game to make you acquire celebi. I am pretty sure they also said that the game only cares about the exact order, and will perfectly accept traded pokemon from further on in the storyline.
