Sammie, Sunshine, and I trekked out to one of my favorite coves for some dungeness crab snaring. I was able to use my retrofitted crab snares for the first time. I mostly caught undersized female crab, so we released them back. Also, you can see the durability of my Fiblink Moonsniper 13ft in this video. Don't forget to like and subscribe!

That first cast gave your pole a lot of stress. There was no cast on the bounce, and the dip in the water was extra stress. The length ratios need to be like a trebuchet, your sling should be 4/5ths of your pole length, no longer. In this first cast it looked like the sling was on a 1:1 ratio with the length of your pole. All of these lead to extra stresses that shorten the life of your pole.

I'm in Oregon and I'm looking to go clamming, crabbing and maybe fishing sometime this month for the first time. I never tried any of those before and I only fished for Striped bass with my father back in California (Monterey Bay) and caught a 23" when I was much younger. Thanks for sharing the info.

Make sure you check for closures before you go crabbing or clamming. Razor clamming is closed for most of the state right now.

I was going to get a Moonsniper rod, but now I’m not so sure. Did it break because it can’t handle the weight of the snare? Or some other reason like a manufacturing defect or shipping damage.
@outdoorschoolofthought
@outdoorschoolofthought 3 жыл бұрын
It’s honestly a decent rod. It lasted crabbing two crabbing seasons for me. It may have been improperly seated with some sand inside, which lead to fracturing on a cast. But I’ll pick up another one of my regular duty surf rods, the Daiwa Beefstick.

You can’t go wrong with a Beefstick for crab snaring. They’re almost indestructable. This guy lifted his 40lb kid with one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZ-bhnxtrJp1l6s !

@@outdoorschoolofthought No it broke because you had way too much slack in the rod and you didn't bounce it before casting. You did the second time but not the 1st. You did a full send with wayy toomuch line out, idk why you didint just say that. Watch the video i just did. you can clearly see and hear it on the 1st cast.

Snare plus bait plus the sinker, about what is the total weight of the payload you are casting out? Is it about like casting an 8 ounce sinker? Is it as easy on the 10 foot rod as on the 13 foot? Do you know of a suitable rod in 4 pieces for ravel, preferably for conventional reel? Is the license needed in CẢ just a regular saltwater fishing license?
@outdoorschoolofthought
@outdoorschoolofthought Жыл бұрын
I would say the 10ft Daiwa Beef Stick rod is thicker and more suited for casting up to a 10oz payload. But definitely check the rating on the rod that you choose. The license needed for crab snaring in CA is the regular fishing license. A good brand to check out for a 4 piece travel rod is St. Croix. I have the 4pc travel surf rod from them and it serves me well.

The term that sucks doesn't quite cover it!!!! That was a nice rod! In Calif. we are allowed to keep legal-size females. All the locals I know toss them back. Because of the hours and miles I drive to get there I have kept them. Thing is they don't have nearly the same amount of meat in them. The rock crab limit is 30 with the size limit of 4 inches. That is a very nice beach!
