Yes, sure did when I tried fly fishing for probably the first time. I bought my poppers at K-Mart or somewhere like that and caught a boatload of fish, just like you said. I then went back to the fly shop to brag about my catch. The owner told me "Those bluegills are suicidal," but I still felt proud. Most importantly of all, I had lots of fun. Also, I found bluegill can be challenging to catch. They're not always willing to bite.

They can be such a productive pattern to catch bluegill with. During the summer months it's hard for me to change off the popper to a traditional fly because I know I can catch them with the poppers haha

Poppers and mouse patterns are definitely my two favorite fly patterns for bass fishing!

Man, I've been tying flies since I started fly fishing almost 20 years ago now but I still have a hard time passing up a betts popper when it comes to warm water. I might have to try one of those boogle bugs though.

They are just too fun! I love tying a lot of different patterns but in the dead of summer when I'm primarily looking for bass and panfish, it's so hard to put the popper down!

A gentle steady lift you'll be surprised, don't set the hook like them people with baitcasters do😖😮‍💨

It's so hard for me to watch bass fisherman set the hook it's ridiculous it's like they're trying to rip the fish's face off that is totally unnecessary it's hilarious and severely irritating to watch at the same time it's almost like as if they think it's a cool thing to do to set the hook like a mofo
