Great analogy of fishing a wing dam
@mikecha19573 жыл бұрын
Great info I need to see if it applies to my river.
@epiccatfish3653 жыл бұрын
I have fished many spot that are " natural wing dams" and this tactic applies every time. Flatheads, blues, or channel cats where no flats or blues exist

I was always told that the fish in the up side where active, and the fish below are not active. Is this true?
@epiccatfish3653 жыл бұрын
It can be true depending on water levels- I mostly use this technique as an ambush point

Why do you lower your boat past the wing dam then pull back on top of it? How do you fish wing dams that are exposed?
@epiccatfish3653 жыл бұрын
Usually when the water is low enough the the wing dams are exposed i fish the tip toward the main channel. I lower it past since lots of wing dams are very wide on the top side and its difficult to guess where the downstream corner, right before the drop off is--without a zero-axis reference point.

@@epiccatfish365 Oh ok. From KC to Lawrence, Kansas our wing dams aren’t that big anymore. I don’t believe they are being maintained.

Wing dams are the main structure around Kansas City. Is there anything that makes you decide to fish one before others?
@epiccatfish3653 жыл бұрын
Yes there are several factors and those will get covered in future videos because if you change any of the parts of the normal water levels, temperature/time of year, relative physical location, etc, it will effect my decisions. It gets really complex real fast and difficult to explain. When i first started fishing them i picked the deepest dams with the swiftest current during summer normal water. Mark good fish and fish them is the simple answer.

@@epiccatfish365 Thanks..I can’t wait to watch the videos. I have a lot of fish-less trips. When I do catch one usually you have to hold him with two hands.

@@epiccatfish365 I’m in a boat.
@epiccatfish3653 жыл бұрын
@@brakemadness most of the guys im in touch with that fish wing dams from shore and target big fish concentrate on the tips -- (basically the outer third) they focus on the outer scour hole with straight line current.. ive done it in a boat by anchoring near the exposed rock tip but anchoring to the submerged tip if that makes sense
