Great advice Pete. I have been using ProCure Ladyfish on my Verticals for a couple of years. Add it to the lure and run it up the line a few feet to get rid of the human smell. I have fished the same wreck at the same time with others using the same jig, and the scented jig produced more hookups period!

I will have to give it a try.

Hey Peter! I've used pro-cure gel and pieces of fish bites on the hook.. If I remember to bring it in my kayak, I use it and it does help get more consistent bites if your in the right spot. Like you said, fish are only in a small percentage of the Ocean. I think being at the right place at the right time is most important but having scent does give an edge over not having it.

Love Pro-Cure inshore. I have not tried it offshore yet.

Hey Pete, Will from New Zealand here. Pleased to see Hurricane Matthew hasn't dampened your fishing. Love your vids brother. Tight lines.

Thanks Gimmie. The hurricane could have been a bad one if it came in 20 more miles. Only lost power for a day.

Lingcod rock cod season starts in 2 weeks here in NCal. Great tips.really likecl the gulp curly tail on the assist hook havent seen that 1. A LOT of guys like to put bloody tuna scent on their lures esp for salmon. Will report my results. Tired of squid strips and white flies, now have a wide (& pricey) assortment of jigs but wasnt real sure about aubtleties of presentation. Great help.

Great tips as usual Pete. As far as tipping jigs for me, it doesn't help me at all. I am so used to jigging at a fast speed, I don't like anything that changes my cadence speed. But like you said, maybe over a reef or slow jigging a wreck, can make a difference. Tight Lines Pete. Fish where the fish are always.

Great video and advice Peter.. I see you still have some of those SHULURE squid jigs left. I can't find any anywhere heard Shulure not around anymore was wondering if you knew anybody still had some left or of company sold to somebody else. thks again keep them coming Tight Lines. Gabe

Good luck trying to find that Squish, I contacted Shulure some time back they said they were going to make more but that never happened. FYI that was a really hot tuna jig back a few years ago. I have seen some knock offs floating around.

Hey Mr Pete. Im new to salt water. Im out of Jensen Beach so i head out the St Lucie inlet. Any tips where to go jigging in that area. Thanks. Great vid. I learned a lot.
@palmbeachpete7 жыл бұрын
You have a lot of great spot out from St. Lucie Inlet. Most fishfinders with GPS will have wrecks marked on them. I will fish wrecks in 120 to 220 feet of water. A GPS is a must for this type of fishing.

Good video! I have tried tipping jigs and it does help. I've even bottom fished using a jig and bait and got some yellowtails. Anyways my biggest problem for vertical jigging at least out of Boynton Inlet where I mostly go out of is where to fish. Besides Skylcift wreck I don't know where else to target. I was wondering if you could help me out. I really like the channel keep up the good work!!
@palmbeachpete8 жыл бұрын
I like to jig on the ledge that goes from 220 to 280 feet right out from the Boynton Inlet and anytime I mark fish on the fish finder.
@proffishingandhunting29384 жыл бұрын
Try to jig on the edges and rocky areas it’s where the most fish usually use it as feeding area

Great video. I'm going to the Bahamas next week and looking to try this. The tackle I have is pretty light, 7'med/heavy with 20lb braid and 20lb leader. What's the smallest size I can get and still get it down there, and any particular brand jigs you'd recommend?
@palmbeachpete5 жыл бұрын
A lot will have to do with the current and how deep you will be dropping. I have used everything from a 1oz to a 3 oz with that outfit. Bass Pro makes a 1oz XPS Freestyle Jig that works like crazy on the reefs for snapper and grouper.
@DeathByFishing5 жыл бұрын
Tipping them does work, but what you put on the hook must be able to swim without hampering the action. I use squid strips.

hi Peter, I wanna learn to vertical jig, can u give me some tips and advice on which jig to get?
@palmbeachpete7 жыл бұрын
A lot will have to do with how deep you are fishing and how strong the currents are. You want to use the lightest jigs you can to get to your target fish. Where are you looking to fish?
@edwinwestby60267 жыл бұрын
Palm Beach Pete I'm looking to catch big bottom fish, grouper, mutton snapper, Amber jack, any bottom predetor. but I only get to reef fish on a party boat so I don't know the depth..
@palmbeachpete7 жыл бұрын
I would get a few 3 oz, 5 oz and 7 oz jigs. That way you should be able to cover the depths you will be fishing. Make sure you have a good jigging outfit to fish with.

Jelsma Outdoors look up several assist hook searches on youtube - use a thicker shank hook and ask your tackle shop for a few yards of 160 lb test braided. Dont bothervwith those shrink wrap things over thevknot just watch enough videos to find a solid knot like a snell, or a jansek special or an uni knot w like 7 wraps. Bombproof.
