Great video, nice to see your knowledge transferred in the format of a Westin edited video! Great ambassador for uk sport fishing. Thanks.

Thank you. Really appreciate your message. I enjoy this ‘one the water’ format but much more effort needed than my ‘kit room’ videos! Is there a method or species you’d want to see next?

@@Thomhuntfishing A pelagic Zander video and a crank bait for perch would be good videos. Maybe some closeups of your screen on the fish finder to show us what you’re looking for. 🎥 🐟

Thanks for the kind words. Each one of us is always learning , that’s what’s so good about lure fishing!

Damn Thom, what a great video, I loved the first fight, since you where using a spinning set up and smaller lures the fight became insane, kinda like Salmon, meanwhile in other videos they use huge bait casters with big soft bates etc, even if its a huge fish the fight is just a couple of seconds, max a min.

@@sorush93 yeah I love using light or medium set ups for pike so much better than a broom handle for a rod!

Thanks Kevin, filmed this a few weeks ago…. It’s been rubbish since then! You been out lately?
@kevinproudman37762 жыл бұрын
@@Thomhuntfishing yes, I try to get out once a week lure fishing on my local river and canal. I’ve been using a lighter rod set up and smaller lures (9-12cm range) myself recently and it’s definitely increased my success rate on the river. A lot more fun as well 👍

Thanks for the comment and glad you like the video. Yeah most tips work for pike in general. Some things are venue specific but give it a go and let me know how you get on 🙏

Thoughts on playing them longer to tire them , to aid easy unhooking?
@Thomhuntfishing Жыл бұрын
Possibly yes, but I tend to just get them in the net when you can rather than keep them on the line

How fat that first pike was 😅 nice vid Tom 👌

Yeah on length it should have been about 10-12lb. It was more like 14-15lb!

Tom want to start lure fishing for pike. I have a abu garcia bait caster rod 10 to 40gram lure weight and a abu garcia bait caster reel. Does that limit me or look at a rod with say a 40 to 140 g lure weight. Great videos mate picking up some top info
@Thomhuntfishing Жыл бұрын
Hi Phil, you can absolutely catch pike on your current set up. 👍 It will be good for soft lures up to about 12/14cm so should catch pike. Make sure your braid is strong enough (at least 30lb) and go out and try getting bites from any sized pike to get you started. Afterwards you can think of a heavier rod and bigger baits 👍
@philwalton1009 Жыл бұрын
Hi Tom many thanks for the quick reply am spooled up with 50 lb braid, which I use on my spod rod. Am a carp fisherman but thought I would try your area of expertise. Just getting my head around the different lures. Again many thanks.

No worries, always here to help! If you stick to a 10g jig head and Shadteez 12cm that’ll be perfect on that rod and deffo catch you pike 👍👍👍

Great vid - what colour shadteez would you recommend for perch on a fairly coloured canal?
@Thomhuntfishing2 жыл бұрын
Medium dirty eg 6-12” Official Roach, Bass Orange, Pearl. Very dirty eg less than 6” Green Tomato, Fire Perch, Fireflake

Hi Tom, great video. Would you recommend lure fishing that venue in late January or early February??
@Thomhuntfishing2 жыл бұрын
January is a very very tough month there but always in with the chance of a very big fish! I think it shuts end of Jan so not fishable in Feb.
