Just starting fishing this fall at south Jersey shore. Specifically the Atlantic City jetties. Been doing well with green crabs but even better with sand fleas that I catch. Using 30lb braid and a longer (around 3ft rig with dropper loop 50lb mono) rig. 2-3 oz sinker and 3/0 hook, but only catching them in the 13" range. Biggest so far has been 14 1/4". It's now early December and water temp is still over 50 degrees. Not sure how much longer they'll be around

My husband should hold seminars lol 😂 he caught a 20+ lb tautog on a rig conventional in November 2021 in Rhode Island. Look it up. Long Island lethals james Milano biggest tautog filmed being caught ever!

go with a lighter leader. Too many snags tog fishing. With A lighter leader you will only lose the leader and many times keep part of the rig. With a heavier leader you will lose the entire rig and tons of line.

One it's November, Pretty much black fish would only bite. But until then, porgy and depending on where you are, puffer could be stealing your bait. I recently caught about 8 porgies couple days ago. They're still out there. I'd rather use porgy hook to catch both.

He's using a jig called "bottom sweeper". If you search tog jigs you'll find all kinds. What is unique about that jig is the hook is really short so weight sits right under the bait

Have to becareful using a lead line heavier than your main. A snag can lose a lot of lines

Late comment, but I will chum by just throwing chunks of crab in the water, crushing shells and claws and such. Try and go to seafood spots and get all their dead crabs for this.
