6 min into this video and I 100% agree with what your saying. When I was learning how to bait cast, I left my spinning gear at home on purpose. To FORCE myself to learn how to use it. Needless to say, that tactic works. It was jokingly said if there was a backlash tournament, I’d be the king! But you know what I got out of it? Not only can I cast well now, but I can also un tangle well. Quite a few times I’ve been handed a horrid backlash on someone else’s pole that they gave up on only to get it out. My other advice? Throw whatever everyone else isn’t. Anything different, unusual, rarely used.

Guess I will just have to leave them at home like u said. And the s waver 168 is more then 1oz . My blue max combo says 1oz max is that okay? @TacticalBassin
@svang554 жыл бұрын
@@jakefromstatefarm3256 most likely your rod will be overloaded. A lot of brands will over rate their max weight limit. My general rule is that a rod's sweet spot is roughly in the middle of their rating. If a rod says it is for 1-5 oz baits, usually it will throw a 3 oz perfectly and 5 oz will be a bit too much for it. I would not use a rod rated at 1 oz max to throw a 1 oz bait. My rod to throw 1-2 oz baits is rated at 1-5 oz. Hope that helps

The first time I targeted Musky I was using a 10-12 inch Sucker minnow. Within 5 minutes I had a monster hit it and ran. Fighting it up to the boat I found about a 4lb Bass hit the Sucker minnow and a monster Musky hit the Bass. At that point I realized I needed to start using BIGGER baits. The record for Minnesota is 8lbs 15 ounces, and I catch a lot of them between 5-7 lbs. 72 more days until the season opens, another 2 weeks until Bass opens in Minnesota. Why is it that everyone seems to use or recommend giant baitcaster reel for teener largemouth? If you look at saltwater, they all use spinning reels for bull redfish and other fish that fight a hell of a lot harder than any teener bass. So why don’t people use redfish style spin caster setups for big bass? Everyone says you need a super beefy baitcaster. I’m struggling to understand why. You guys are the experts. Please share your thoughts.

I've been throwing the big swimbaits for a few years now and I've caught a few fish up to 8lbs. It definitely works but you'll be spending a lot of time casting because it's NOT a numbers game. You're not going to go out and crush em on a 10" glide bait or even 8" swimbait very often. They DO and WILL work but you're going to get skunked or only get one bite more often than not. You'll also be surprised how small a fish still will eat a big bait

Outside of California, I don't know of many places that present huge trout-like swim baits. California is a state that is incredibly unique to the rest of the country. Florida strain bass in an ecosystem that is perfect for growth coupled with stocked prey that helps to accelerate their growth. It's one of my favorite states to fish, but for those of us in the mid-west, 7-9lb fish are true monsters. 10-13lb fish are nearly unheard of.

@lane45744 жыл бұрын
If you hook the stock hook to a tree and the line your using doesn't break , but you straighten or break your hook. That's when you change it. all joking aside , grab the stock hook with needle nose and if you can tweek it easily , replace it with a beefier hook. I learned from fish actually straightening the hook or straight up breaking it.

They wouldn't take a swimbait but they hit my drop shot tiny fluke and that's how.
