6 min into this video and I 100% agree with what your saying. When I was learning how to bait cast, I left my spinning gear at home on purpose. To FORCE myself to learn how to use it. Needless to say, that tactic works. It was jokingly said if there was a backlash tournament, I’d be the king! But you know what I got out of it? Not only can I cast well now, but I can also un tangle well. Quite a few times I’ve been handed a horrid backlash on someone else’s pole that they gave up on only to get it out. My other advice? Throw whatever everyone else isn’t. Anything different, unusual, rarely used.

Do i need to invest in a fish finder. Cause I have no idea what is below me while fishing so my usual spots are banks rocks stuff fish spawn in. I fish. Huge soft plastic worms and lizards. Guess I will just have to leave them at home like u said. And the s waver 168 is more then 1oz . My blue max combo says 1oz max is that okay? @TacticalBassin
@svang55
@svang55 4 жыл бұрын
@@jakefromstatefarm3256 most likely your rod will be overloaded. A lot of brands will over rate their max weight limit. My general rule is that a rod's sweet spot is roughly in the middle of their rating. If a rod says it is for 1-5 oz baits, usually it will throw a 3 oz perfectly and 5 oz will be a bit too much for it. I would not use a rod rated at 1 oz max to throw a 1 oz bait. My rod to throw 1-2 oz baits is rated at 1-5 oz. Hope that helps

The first time I targeted Musky I was using a 10-12 inch Sucker minnow. Within 5 minutes I had a monster hit it and ran. Fighting it up to the boat I found about a 4lb Bass hit the Sucker minnow and a monster Musky hit the Bass. At that point I realized I needed to start using BIGGER baits. The record for Minnesota is 8lbs 15 ounces, and I catch a lot of them between 5-7 lbs. 72 more days until the season opens, another 2 weeks until Bass opens in Minnesota. Thanks for getting me revved up for the up coming season with the whats and the wheres because that DOES matter!

Why is it that everyone seems to use or recommend giant baitcaster reel for teener largemouth? If you look at saltwater, they all use spinning reels for bull redfish and other fish that fight a hell of a lot harder than any teener bass. So why don’t people use redfish style spin caster setups for big bass? Everyone says you need a super beefy baitcaster. I’m struggling to understand why. You guys are the experts. Please share your thoughts.

I've been throwing the big swimbaits for a few years now and I've caught a few fish up to 8lbs. It definitely works but you'll be spending a lot of time casting because it's NOT a numbers game. You're not going to go out and crush em on a 10" glide bait or even 8" swimbait very often. They DO and WILL work but you're going to get skunked or only get one bite more often than not. You'll also be surprised how small a fish still will eat a big bait

Outside of California, I don't know of many places that present huge trout-like swim baits. California is a state that is incredibly unique to the rest of the country. Florida strain bass in an ecosystem that is perfect for growth coupled with stocked prey that helps to accelerate their growth. It's one of my favorite states to fish, but for those of us in the mid-west, 7-9lb fish are true monsters. 10-13lb fish are nearly unheard of.

@lane4574
@lane4574 4 жыл бұрын
If you hook the stock hook to a tree and the line your using doesn't break , but you straighten or break your hook. That's when you change it. all joking aside , grab the stock hook with needle nose and if you can tweek it easily , replace it with a beefier hook. I learned from fish actually straightening the hook or straight up breaking it.

They wouldn't take a swimbait but they hit my drop shot tiny fluke and that's how. I got my DD bass I haven't been back to that spot but I believe if I go back at the right place at the right time they'll be there again but bthe lake has changed so much from that time the lake is up like 30 feet since then.

Hey Tim, Great video bro! Yes, this video is a bit longer than most but.....what a treasure trove of information this is! Thank you so much for your time and effort to put this video out! I feel like I can take these new swimbaits, and the other lures as well, out with more confidence and a better gameplan now. I can't wait to get out ther and give them a go! I live in the midwest and the snow is coming down as I type this but I know the time for me to fish prespawn is coming soon! I have been getting ready, and using the advice you give to get that done too! You guys are awesome! I do have a question if one of you guys, or anyone else reading this comment can help me it would be much appreciated. When we click through to Tackle Warehouse from the Tactical Bassin homepage does that give you guys the affiliate credit? I just recently placed my first order with Tackle Warehouse through that link because I want you guys to get that credit, so I am just checking if I did that right. (I wouldn't even know what Tackle Warehouse was if it weren't for you and Matt.) Tight lines!

Think they’ve said you can clean it with rubbing alcohol then use a general cork sealant. I just used mineral oil after cleaning my rods the other week.

İf I am Fishin in limited time like the sunset and I have 2 hours. When and how I should decide to go finesse from giant baits? As it gets dark or gets bright during dawn, would I be missing prime time by shifting???

Can I get away with the small S Waver on my dobyns x 744 or 746 or 705 cb? I’m new to swim/ glide baits and want to try one but don’t want to buy dedicated rod yet. Great video , thanks again fellas

Marc Anzlovar yes you can. Gary himself told me it’s fine to use your 705, 736 (or whichever you use) for that smaller swaver and for the 6” Little creeper all amer trash fish. Don’t cast like a wild man and you’ll be fine. Cast it like an Alabama rig

I’d say it’s ok to throw the 168 on the 746 just don’t try to launch it let the bait carry itself. Don’t bother with the 120 it’s too small

Hey Tim, I was looking for swimbaits in brown trout colors and stumbled on the savage gear 4D.... I ordered an 8” and a 6”.... what size treble hooks should I be using on them?
