All i can say is WHAT A DAY!! Me and my buddy Tal went out to lake simcoe with one thing in mind.... absolutely crush these whitefish!!! We ventured out and noticed nobody has been on the areas we were fishing. Nonetheless we were kids in a candy shop. The minute we drilled our first couple of holes we were instantly on SCHOOLS of Whitefish. Although there was many fish around, i still had a really tough time in the early morning to get hooked up. While Tal was smashing fish back to back, you can see my frustration at the beggining of this video. However, i was able to turn the table around and put a bunch of fish topside aswell. Sometimes its a matter of switching of rods, lures, and weight of your lure to get bit. This day the vibrato in 10gram and 14gram olive back and gold were doing the trick. While Tal was using the 1/4oz and 1/2oz MEEGZ jigs tipped with a green pumpkin tube. I was pairing that with a 32inch medium st croix mojo ice fast tip, and a 36inch medium fast custom eyce rod (Both links will be down below)
All in all i hope you enjoyed this video as much as we enjoyed catching these fish and putting something together.

if your catching and releasing whitefish don't fish them in 50 feet or deeper because they cant deflate there air balder fast enough. 95% percent of the ones you released in that depth died. i see them in the spring floating!!!!! I do studies for the MRN so yes its a fact.
@Joey.T

mike paul Thats unfortunate but how could you know it’s from 50ft? There’s whitefish coming up from 120ft of water in kempenfelt and released? How do u generalize whitefish dying in 50ft of water when there’s other populations being released at a greater depth? Just curious mind me asking!! If you have those studies I would truly appreciate reading them as I never heard of that!! -> Shoot me a msg on Instagram!! Thanks.

just about over the 50 ft mark is when the pressure and thermocline increases. whitefish have a thin air bladder, if your referring to other species like lake trout, they can adapt very quickly to pressure change including salmon/rainbow... have you every caught a perch in 30ft + and the air bladder is sticking out of the mouth? same situation. There is a few year old MRN photo of kempenfelt bay in early spring where there are hundreds of whitefish died floating because of air in there bladders.which means they swim to fast to the surface or "something" pulls them up too fast for them to adjust.

That’s very good information to hear!! Personally never heard of that and I’m sure many other anglers out there are not aware due to lack of MNR presence on fish preservation. If you do studies on it, it would be greatly appreciated if those studies can be presented to the fishing public to help preserve this fishery for longer generations!👍

I believe it happening in kempenfelt bay due to extreme depths, however as for perch yes I agree with that and completely aware of the air bladder on that. But whitefish I have never seen them expel the same bladder, and they seem to return to bottom fine on my graphs!! But nonetheless thanks for the information 👊

What's your favorite line , what do you do about the twist . Keep up the great videos.
@Joey.T
@Joey.T 3 жыл бұрын
I like to use 10lb powerpro braid, with 10lb tatsu flourocarbon leader. As for line twist i dont usually get much line twist that would be bothersome. I do a albright line to line knot and i usually dont have any issues with that. However, if line twist is bothering you maybe add a barrel swivel, hope this helps and thank you very much.

Orillia Fishing try running a top shot with a size 6 hook, use a small impact bait mini shot goby colour, and leave that top hook about a good distance away from the bottom!! I usually aim for like 26inches away!! Add a 1/4oz meegs on bottom and just tickle it when that fish comes in!! They been smacking that recently🤙

hey Joey, i have a shimano senna MH fast action reel and rod combo.. how will it compare to your mojo rod? i am pretty sure i mark whitefish but i never can detect bites similar to your vids.. any suggestions?
@Joey.T
@Joey.T 3 жыл бұрын
Thats a great reel to use, infact have a couple of them. depending on the size either 1000 or 2500 is what id be using paired on a 36MH mojo rod or anything in the 40inch MH range also will work best. Also if you cannot detect the bites it can be the way you are presenting the bait, try and give yourself a good thump on the bottom and telling your mind that you always anticipate hitting bottom, the minute u drop that rod tip to smack bottom and you dont feel it SET THE HOOK!!! Many people think the hit is a thump but in reality it can be in their mouth and no one will know. Really pay attention to bottom contact and it will increase your chance at detecting those bites. Hope this helps and thank you for the support.

Craig Leslie watch where the other hook lines up when it falls off the fin ;) their lips r soft it must of pulled from the mouth and the other hook got him in the side of the face!! U can see the other hook lines up with his mouth ones it flops which undoubtedly tells me I pulled one of the hooks while fighting!! Nonetheless I appreciate the comment 👊🤣😉
