I have the exact same dining room set that belonged to my grandparents. I’ve always wanted to paint it but most of the videos didn’t have tables with that much details. Thank you so much for posting this video.

thanks so much. i have a brown ashley dining table i bought a year ago in NYC & it fit in beautifully there, but now im living & working in florida & the brown just doesnt go w/the florida vibe i want. im dying to paint it white but because this is new furniture w/a sheen i thought the paint would not adhere & i didnt want to bother w/ a stripper. its huge 78" w/ 8 chairs, so i was intimidated. but you give me confidence to go ahead! & the chalk paint needs no stripper or sanding??!!! fantastic!

When using wax would hot plates/cups melt or ruin the top finishing of wax?
@KerriLawless5 жыл бұрын
Hi Karla, I'm not too sure about that. The "wax" we use is actually an acrylic topcoat, so I'm not sure why they call it a wax. There are other products out there that are really a wax though. I wouldn't put anything on there that you wouldn't put on a traditionally finished wood table just to be safe. I ruined a traditional finish one time just by putting a really hot plate on it so I always play it safe by putting something under. It is pretty durable, but better safe than sorry. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

I’m wanting to chalk paint an old drop leaf table. My concern is how it is for eating a meal on it. Getting it wet or hot? Can you tell me how that worked out? Thanks. Great video! Love the look!
@eleanaparis70945 жыл бұрын
Cheryl Doss you cant see it after it’s painted but as always you should use a mat for the wood it’s self but it’s best to protect wood from water or hot bottoms of dishes bowls Ect ..I’m a professional painter for furnitue and find that the info I have provided helps you ...
@KerriLawless5 жыл бұрын
Hi Cheryl, Chalk paint is very porous and needs to be sealed well. The acrylic wax that we use has turned out to be quite durable and is water resistant, but I haven't tried anything hot. I would recommend putting something under a really hot dish just in case. Hope that helps and thanks so much for watching!

Are you sure your Facebook link is correct? Also, is your table-top in this video made of wood? My DR table is a veneer, and I'm wondering if the chalk paint will work.
@KerriLawless5 жыл бұрын
Terri Myers Hi! Thanks soooo much! No it is not correct. I had someone helping me with that so I will correct it.
@KerriLawless5 жыл бұрын
Terri Myers and yes, you can definitely chalk paint veneer as long as you protect it with a couple of coats of the wax.
@tiffanimurphy5315 жыл бұрын
Kerri Lawless is the wax you used the same one you’d use on veneer? Also how do you clean it afterwards? Do you have to be careful with cleaners?

Beautiful... So with chalk paint you don’t have to sand?
@eunicemancinas4 жыл бұрын
Leslie Jones nope, you do need to seal though with wax or water based wood finish, otherwise it will have a chalky finish and eventually the paint will come off.

Oh I’m so doing this !! Also, what was the reason for the water again? I couldn’t catch it maybe I’m having a moment lol
@KerriLawless5 жыл бұрын
Hi Akeila, so excited that you’re gonna use this technique! Would love to see pics when you’re done! The reason for using the water is that the chalk paint just kind of sticks when you layer it on top of itself and so in order to get the movement that you want, you use the water to push the paint in the direction you’d like for it to go. Chalk paint is very porous so when you’re layering it on top of more chalk paint, it doesn’t really want to move. I hope that makes sense! LOL.

Oh man watching these diy’s I realize I’ve gotten possibly the worst shape of antique set as it’s So Dirty, it’s Sooooo Dry and Dirty, the carvings are full of half century old dust that’s been sitting in Florida humidity, it’s Stanley furniture dining chairs and China buffet + a 9ft table with two “triple-pedestal” legs and so many carvings oh man, I was so excited to refinish it at first but the chairs are so dry they’re squeaky, this will be way longer than I thought 💆🏼♀️
