How does the system allowing teacher's unions to endorse school board candidates not run afoul of conflict-of-interest laws? These same school boards are responsible for negotiating teacher contracts. This just doesn't pass the "smell" test.

The results of doing so would leave children subject to a worse education, would leave teachers less regulated and would leave private schools able to propel the sons and daughters of the wealthy even further up the social ladder. Why would you want that?

Yes, this is the urgent matter of the moment! Honestly, this shouldn’t be a problem. Union busting is a specialty of Libertarians. It’s so nice when everyone has equal power and justice. We are all the same, right?

Practically every advancement in worker history has been thanks to unionisation. How narrowminded does one need to be, to be against it?

Have you ever been in a Union? I quit a job with Verizon because the commissars of the Union made my working life miserable after I opted out. There's a difference between organizing for a specific redress and change, and becoming a top down, overbearing bureaucracy that oppresses the worker. The Teacher's Union in my State of California forces employees to align with a DEI statement, which now has the force of a religion, as defined by SCOTUS.

@@nuqwestr I have been in many unions in England and the difference between those here and those in your country is cultural - the US seems to be hyper-individualist whereas the UK is more sympathetic to the plights of others. This is a problem the people of your nation has to band together to solve. As for your last point; I agree with you that religion has no place in unionisation.

Ranma I'm in the UK and I'm glad you have had a good experience with Unions but sadly I can't say the same. There was a Union member sat in on our meeting for HR and smacked down my ideas several times that I was trying to push for get some job security. She actually tried to speak for me. Sadly no she had no sympathy for me whatsoever and stated "We don't agree with that" about my ideas trying to speak for me and really trying to shut me down. She had no right to do that as I was not a member of a Union and only speaking for myself.

@@Nicole-Faith One bad example in your own personal experience should not form your world view of an entire industry. Look wider, think bigger. Consider others, not just yourself.

Same for you! One good example doesn't exclude bad examples from existing. Do not think up how it is on your own, use data and user stories. And it's up to you to decide how many bad examples is enough to call bad things bad, but even a few is often more than enough.
