All good advice. It helped me out quite a bit. The only thing I did differently was I used a wrench on the fan clutch nut, it came off pretty easy by wedging a pry bar between the pulleys to hold it in place.

I need to replace my thermostat on my H2 and I was hoping it was on top of the engine like usual, but this video help me to confirm that it is on the water pump. Well something to do on the weekend . Thanks dude good video.

good instructional video. i do these all the time. 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0 engines all pretty much have the same water pump. i hate using a chisel bit on the air hammer so i bought the kit from MAC with the wrench ends, and the shaft fits the air hammer, works like a charm, well unless its siezed so bad, nothing happens. but on some of them there are 2 little holes in the back of the pulley and the gm holder works to hold the pulley then hit it. i used to use a big adustable and a big hammer, worked.

Hey Brian, I will give you a quick and easy tool for the fan clutch that wont scar it up. The best part is it will cost you 6-8 dollars. What I have been using for years is a short piece of chain about 2 foot or so and a some metric bolts just longer than the bolts that hold your water pump pulley on. Then take the chain and bolt it to your water pump then the other side to a mount or a chain bracket. Then break it loose with a big crescent. You can also use two holes on the pulley. Thanks

Good call! I made a tool like that for doing the 6.7L on the new Ford water pumps. They have no room to get in otherwise.

Thank you! Short and sweet! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I always like to check out videos before I get working to see what I’m in for . TG for internet sometimes it’s better to see first hand then to have to read it! I do all my own work as much as I can. Just change my fuel pump a year ago. For a female I probably own just as many or more tools them most men.

@javie4vr It's an inch up from the bottom of the radiator. It's a tiny white plug that interfaces with a quarter inch ratchet. ONLY turn it quarter turn and then pull it out half an inch. It's on the driver side. It's easier to pull the hose and about equally messy. Good job GM! You get an "F" (VW tuner sucking air commercial)

@cobrakid01 Need isn't the word. Want to is better. It holds the gaskets in place till you get the bolts in. It just makes things easier and more conducive to success the first time. It also acts as cheap insurance just in case there's a small gap from manufacturing, you drinking while working, or a phone call interruption or whatever.

You can get the tool for 20 dollars. Also what u can do is take a wrench that fits that can't think of what size off the top of my head, but u just place the wrench on there and take a hammer and hit two or three times and it well spin right off with our damaging the nut.

just an FYI (option) for the fan clutch removal tools: J 41240 Fan Clutch Remover and Installer J 41240-5A Fan Clutch Wrench One tool goes into the two holes on the front of the pulley to keep the pulley from turning as the other is loosening the hex shaped bolt behind it.

@briansmobile1 where do I find the radiator drain plug/valve in my 2005 Silverado 5.3L? the only thing I see is removing the large hose at the bottom of the radiator (left side--looking at the front of the truck) to remove the old coolant. Thanks for the help.

Brian, looks like the water pump pulley has holes for a spanner wrench? I made a spanner wrench from a bicycle pedal wrench when i did the water pump on my 96 ZJ, the wrench locks the water pump pulley in place and a large adjustable takes care of the rest, no compressed air where i live

Ok, I'm no gear head by any means, but my escalade is leaking coolant, but hoses and pump appear dry, actually looks like the leak is somewhere around return hose, and appears to leak worse when a/c is running, any ideas? HELP it's Saturday and no mechanics are open but pep boys, and they have butchered my escalade one to many times and will never get one more $ from me!
