Thanks Colin. Awesome demo. I am a 72 year old Grandma and when my blade broke, I bought a new one but was waiting for someone to come and put it on for me., I'm going to give it a shot myself.

Wow! Thank you for this. I recently received an old Sears / Craftsman 10" band saw from one of my uncles. Was having a lot of trouble getting it to cut straight, keep the blade on the tire(s) and not sure how to adjust. You pretty much nailed all the questions I had! Thank you very much

Great video covering aspects that others don’t…. And for us home DIYers, it was nice to see you working on a bandsaw that most of us have… not some commercial grade $10k monster with all the bells and whistles! My only criticism is, when you are doing the fine adjustments, it is hard to see what you are doing. Zooming in on these would be a great improvement. But overall, we’ll done!

I watched 4 how to videos and yours was the only one that covered changing the blade and setting the tension and checking the wheel. And telling how to know if the blade is dull, OMG. Right on. Awesome tutorial. Thank you.

I know this is an old video but I tell you, I just replaced a bandsaw blade for the first time. Followed this step by step and it worked perfectly. The belt on the motor sounds a little icky but I cut an almost perfect semi circle with my new awesome blade. Thank you.

Great video Colin! Did your bandsaw come with that tension handle or did you add it? If you added it, can you do a video on how you made and attached it? Looks like a very easy way to adjust the tension.

Hi, I am busy restoring two small Delta Bench Top Bandsaws. The door latch system seem to have been a week design point as they have all failed, on both machines. It appears that you have customized you door latches on this bandsaw in the video. If so could I please ask if you could send me a photograph of how you did this modification please?

Hi Colin and thanks for your video. I inherited a band saw from my father when he passed away almost 20 years ago and it’s been sitting in my workshop since then without a blade. I now have need of the saw so I bought a blade but had little idea how to install it. After reviewing your video I was able to install without a problem. Working great!

I cant get this blade deflection thing for tension, it depends so much on how much pressure you put on it. Other guides say tension it till it gives a tone when you pluck it, but thats also so variable and subjective. Im really struggling to get my new bandsaw to cut straight.

I also want to really thank you for this! I also inherited an old 12" Sears/Craftsman that wouldn't cut straight after I put on one of the blades that came with it. You have given me some really likely items to look at to get this thing to cut straight again. It was used to all the time by the previous owner; therefore, a dull blade is a likely first thing to look at in my case, and NOT the guide alignment - lesson learned!

It's a pain when you can't get the pivoting of the wheel to line up before applying a bit of tension. As you run the wheel, you can see the saw not staying on the wheel centered, it wants to roll of the wheel if the pivoting isn't exactly correct to maintain the saw centered. I'm a beginner woodworker, and at first I had a terrible time centering the saw on the wheel as I turned it manually. You make it look so easy. I guess experience takes care of that headache in time. Thanks for putting this out there to teach us less experienced...lol.

I like your videos. I would like to ask you. My bandsaw is Makita I have problems with it it burn the wood if I do resawing. I searched in the internet I have found a blades wax but it is hard to get one because I live in far country. So I am thinking of using WD40 or small amount of grease. Do you think it would help? Or if you have some tips I would appreciate it
@MrHarleythedevil7 жыл бұрын
I'm not am expert, but I would think it could be the blade. It might be a bit dull or it might have too small of a tooth. (Or you might have super hard wood, you didn't say.) Small teeth won't clear the sawdust away quickly enough. Razor sharp large teeth could solve the problem. Or do wot I do , and Google the problem. An answer has to be there somewhere.

I was never pleased with the new blade I put on my 10” bandsaw several years ago. It never cut well. I discovered recently that the blade was backwards. I didn’t notice when I installed it that it had been inverted. It’s amazing how well it cuts now that I have flipped the blade. Duh! Now, I need to adjust the blade on my 14” Jet.

I tried to change the blade multiple times, but it KEPT slipping off, it was driving me crazy that I couldn't figure out how to get it properly and safely tensioned! Every time I THINK it is tensioned correctly and go to make a cut, the blade pops off!!

have been setting blades for the last 2 years , query what happens with a wider blade like3/4 inch or even 1 inch , if you set the gullet to the centre the back of the blade will be almost running off the edge of the tyre
@ianmathieson657 жыл бұрын
melkoebes: it doesn't matter if the back of the blade hangs off the back of the tyre because the crown shape of the tyre means the back edge would be unsupported even if the tyre was much wider. The important detail is that the rear of the gullet rides on the highest point of the crown, no matter what.

Good tutorial Colin. Are you saying that the main cause of blade dulling is that they get so hot they lose their temper, or that they soften and deform, or that they actually melt? Just curious, as all three possibilities had never occurred to me, I just assumed they were being abraded by the wood and wearing down like a chisel or plane blade.
@knecht1058 жыл бұрын
Blade dulling can be caused by a few different things, but certainly heat build-up a the very tips is one cause. I'm not sure that blades would lose their temper, I guess it could happen in some cases, blades can get very hot and yes, you are correct that just plane old wear will also contribute to it as well.
