Thanks for supporting me on Patreon: www.patreon.co... Easy battery swap for your quartz watch! Detailed description below ↡

Make sure to hit that subscribe button if you're new here! Thanks for watching!
Easily change your Timex Weekender quartz watch battery or any snap-back wristwatch with common household items: a knife and a sturdy plastic top or container. This video was made at the request of a viewer! Thanks for watching, liking, and subbing!
STEPS FOR CHANGING BATTERY:
1) Acquire knife and sturdy plastic item as close to the size of the caseback as possible
2) Pry off caseback with knife using leverage and opening slot on caseback (point knife blade away from yourself!)
3) Pop battery out with knife and replace battery: CR 2016 3V with the Weekender
4) Check caseback's gasket to make sure it is in good shape
5) Using you plastic item on top of the caseback, carefully press caseback on. The Weekender has very tight tolerances so you will need either a vice or a thin carpet to put the watch head on while you evenly step on the plastic top (this is an improvised caseback press ha!).
6) Make sure the watch is running by fully depressing the crown into the case.
7) Like and sub if it worked for you!

Thank you! I had it all figured out except how to reattach the back of the case. Your method of stepping on a spacer worked perfectly. Don't understand why Timex makes it so dang hard to do, but thank you so much for explaining this work around!!!! So glad to have my nice Indiglo back, so's I can check the time when it's dark!

I almost panicked when I could not pop the case back onto my watch! Thanks to your ghetto-fabulous idea, my Timex keeps on ticking. I placed the watch on soft cardboard on the floor so there would be some give when I stepped onto the rigging. You saved me from either sending it off to Timex (hassle) or buying a new watch.

Thanks for the great video, especially for pointing out that there would be a correct orientation to the back case (around 5:00 minutes). I was able to replace the battery without any problem and for substantially less than the $30 the jewelry store was going to charge.

Thanks for the "ghetto fabulous" tip, especially cluing me in to listen/feel the snap! I probably would've crushed my watch. But instead of stepping on it (again, I probably would've crushed it), I put the watch on a dish towel on the kitchen counter, and used the wooden bottom of my hammer handle to snap it back in place. It worked like a charm. Thanks again! Cheers!

I spent a number of years in the jewelry business, I was always kind of the watch specialist in the store and did all the battery replacement when I was in the store, I have a couple of details I can point out to improve the video. #1 NEVER touch the battery with your fingers! The oils and acids in your skin will cause slight corrosion, substantially shortening the life of the battery, those tiny batteries don't have the capacity to overcome that corrosive residue. Use a clean tissue to handle the battery, the battery makers recommend using PLASTIC tweezers (never metal) to handle them. If you do touch the battery, clean it off with alcohol, and its a good idea to clean the battery terminal in the watch with a tiny bit of alcohol also. Use a dull knife to remove the case back for safety, you don't want to get cut, and you don't want to damage a good knife. You can normally snap the back on with your thumbs, your foot method is a last resort, too likely to damage the watch. Coming back from lunch, I caught one of my employees using metal tweezers on a watch battery, creating a dead short between the + & - terminals of the battery, so we had to throw that new battery out since she shorted it out, things like that happen when a store takes your watch out of sight to replace it, except they probably won't replace it and the new battery won't last but a month or two. That or they will put their fingers all over it, cutting the battery life in half, that's a couple of the reasons why I always do my own battery replacement!

Thank you for your input, I ordered the tools I'll need to do the job correctly. Including, among other things, a plastic tweezer. I have several watches that need their batteries changed. I also have a recessed area thing (in various sizes) so that I won't be pressing on the glass of the watch front. Thanks again!

@@Crlpope Thats common for this watch , I have seen this alot where the last guy used sellotape , not good but works , what I do is manipulate the positive terminal and it will stay in but even then they can be painful , and sometime short out when they pop up , and don't use glue , had to replace a pin today and they had glue it in , what would take about 2 mins took half an hour..

This helped greatly! 3 tips from doing the change. 1. Use a jewelry screw driver to open -- you can buy one for a few $. When I first tried a knife, it slipped and scratched the case. Jewelry screwdriver fits well and no issues. 2. Wear nitrile gloves. They prevent oil and corrosion on the battery, making it last longer. Super cheap at store. 3. For the bottle cap, first fit the back of the watch on partially, so some of it sinks into the grove, with the rest slanted slightly above final resting position. Then step it. Trying to snap the whole thing at once didn't work at first, until I aligned the back. Snapping it back together was a snap, literally. Hope this helps someone else!

Thanks so much for the help. I emailed Timex Customer "NO" Service and was blown off. This worked perfectly, down to the pill bottle top. I have 3 "Indiglo" watches that all needed batteries and Timex answer was to send them in for service. I had no attachment to any of them so if I'd broken a crystal, it wouldn't have been a big deal. But all 3 are running fine.

My 170 pounds failed to snap the back on :-( I used a cap from a bottle of soda which was a good size. I hate having to go to a jeweler for my inexpensive Timex. Will have to try using the vice at work. Your method is probably the best diy one, I checked out watch back presses on Amazon, they all look alike and seem to be made from mystery metal that breaks easily.

Thanks for the DIY, got the new CD2016 in and its ticking away. However the Indiglo is now SUPER dim. Like, only noticeable ≈ at 6 o'clock in complete darkness. I just read dirty battery contacts could be to blame. I opened the watch back up, and wiped any lingering the fingerprints + crud that was in there with a cotton patch and then squirted a little contact cleaner around in there. Polished up the backplate 7 gave it the contact cleaner as as well. Liet it sit for 20-30 minutes for the stuff to evaporate and put it back together, wearing some gloves this time. Unfortunately, didn''t have any effect. Indiglo is still extremely dim. I even busted out the multimeter and the battery was read at 3.1v. Any insight would be appreciated, fellow commenters included. Rock on y'all.

Good guide. Careful with those knives. Plus, stepping on watch to get back on is probably overkill. Using your pill bottle (excellent idea), I was able to press the back in by leaning down into the watch on a solid table top and putting my upper body weight on the top of the bottle. I personally would *never* use a vice, too difficult to *not* oversqueeze. Also, playing cards were excellent scratch resistant surfaces to protect your watch when putting the back on.

I couldn’t get my back on with the cap method or even my vise clamp (though i was worried about cracking the crystal.) I finally resorted to my old faithful standby WD-40. I put just a little on a Q-tip and rubbed it around the edge of the backing and then it snapped right in with finger pressure. Just needed to reduce the resistance.

Wife has her father's Timex watch on a silver band with large turquoise stones; it was hand made in Arizona probably 30 or 40 years ago. It has great sentimental value as well as monetary. The watch battery died, which I easily removed. However, I struggled to snap on the back. Concluding I had to apply consistent pressure around the entire edge of the back, I used everything I have in my tool arsenal, none of which worked. I did a Google search, found your video and used the suggested pill bottle cap technique. It worked!!!!! I was about to take it to our local jeweler and pay to have it done. Thanks!!!!

I have a question please : I have guess watch model no. 113515G1, this watch I tried to change the battery, but when I did I damage the closer where it should be over the battery, then I use a small aluminum sheet and put it instead of that, the watch working very well and after 3 days the second hand is working continually and the other not. the minute hand and hour not working. Please, can you help me? Thank you again.

Is the watch likely to retain its water resistance? I assume it’s just that built in rubber seal that you mentioned that stops water getting in. If the seals good then hopefully it will still be water resistant?
