You don’t need to completely remove the wheel to replace the tube. It just needs to be lifted enough to get the tube out and replaced. That way the cables can be left in place, although the cable ties may need to be cut and replaced.

@ephtea6149 жыл бұрын
On my stromer, if I don't have to actually change the tube, I've patched a tube without pulling the wheel off. The tire is a lot easier to get off of the rim than my wire-beaded road bike tire. If it's just a simple puncture then I just pop the bead out on one side, pull out source of the puncture, pull out the section of tube I need to repair and pop it back together when the repair is done. I hate unbolting and cutting zip ties. Not only that but the potential to lose the small spacers on the hub shaft is eliminated this way. Only problem is bike wants to fall over even with the kickstand down with this method. I have to lean it against a wall or tree or something.

He never finished the job. By the time he would have re-plugged the battery cables after carefully lining them up so as to not get them misaligned and then replaced several zip ties, trimmed them and replaced the battery and then pumped the tire back up to correct pressure... phew, you've just doubled the time this demo took. Btw, out on the trail I always find I' never remember to bring my bike stand so much easier and quicker to leave the wheel in place and just remove a section of tire rim near the puncture, pull out a piece of tube, patch it, stick it back in, reinsert the tire rim, pump up and go.

Where did I read the cables to the rear tire should be removed in this manner; communication cable first, power second. Maybe that procedure only applies when the battery is connected?

Can’t this be done without actually removing a tire rim, if you can identify where the leak is coming from you don’t have to remove the rim from the frame, especially if you’re on a bike path somewhere you don’t have access to a bike stand . Can’t you just take out the tube where the leak is and put a patch on. That’s what I used to do that when I was much younger person on a regular bike. Does the same thing apply on the electric bike style rims?
@productcheck5 жыл бұрын
Cool, I usually remove the tire while the wheel is on the bike, patch, put the tire back on. This way I don't have to remove the wheel at all.

I wish my electric bike was this easy to remove that damn back tire. for me I have to almost completely dissassemble the entire rear of the bike. all 22 nuts and bolts and they are on the inside of the frame that I can't remove so I have to squeeze my hand down into the bike and barely hold the bolt while I kill my back hunched over it trying to turn a screw 100 times. removing the kickstand, fender, butt plate, disc brake, chain, 6 axle bolts, wired secure plate, and THEN the frame bolts. Now I can slide my tire back far enough to unhook the motor wire and slide the chain off the axle to release the tire. by myself I have to take breaks or I'd die... whole process takes about 6 hours to change a flat.

This video is not helpful for me. I have a Magnum Metro Plus which has the power cable going through the rear axle. I've found it impossible to reinstall the rear wheel after having to replace yet another broken spoke (6 in 2 months of riding). This piece of garbage is great when it actually works, but the maintenance just isn't worth it. Am I just unlucky or are ebikes just a bad idea?
@deimosphob6 жыл бұрын
Just use your hands to take the tire off, it's not that hard. Tire levers of any variety can damage your tire. Also, keep the tube as a spare and go tubeless, its so much better, you don't get pinch flats so you can run lower tire pressure and get more power to the ground/go offroading.
@tobyneufeldt57633 жыл бұрын
You did not reconnect the electrical cable and put pack the zip ties. It you have a torque arm on you back wheal hub motor this also has to be loosed and bolted back, which increase the number of tools you nee to carry...
@sbsman49984 жыл бұрын
Wrap those disconnected terminal ends, they look fragile! Slime, forget it, quick use maybe but before a puncture happens, nah, messy stuff hardens quick inside tube, becoming useless.
@RPMac4 жыл бұрын
This is to change a tube....you do not have to take of wheel to fix a flat by patching the tube....i was fixing my own flats when i was 9 or 10 years old....turn the bike upside down...first find your problem... nail or glass or thorn....mark the rim at that spot....release the tire all the way round....pull out around eight to ten inches of tube...find you puncture on the tube....patch it....put everything back....including air ....and bingo...only need to remove wheel on replacement of tire....because you can actually replace tube without totally removing wheel. Most of the vids on this subject are total overkill !!!

Yeah, it can really challenging... especially with a heavy ebike. This is why I love the puncture resistant tires, and I try to keep the recommended PSI in the tires, to reduce pinch flats. Mid-drive electric bicycles tend to be much easier to service.
@joshuamartin50853 жыл бұрын
I don’t have a car and the nearest bike shop isn’t really within walking distance and it’s somewhat hazardous traveling on foot without any vehicle as there isn’t always sidewalks for pedestrians. So when the bike breaks down, it does put me in a compromising position. Maybe e-bikes aren’t reliable substitutes for commuter vehicles… 😄 I can’t say I am technically confident to deconstruct all the stuff on the rear wheel to separate it from the bike
