How to change a gut E string - the knot

I reccomend using Aquila F Reds cause they last many times as long as Gut Strings & are resistant to temperature changes

All guy strings don't need to be knotted by the musician/luthier after receiving the set, right? My Pure Gut String set, Academie made by Gamut, has the option to order them preknotted &/ with a leather washer(stopper) that act as a modern violin string ball end. In your opinion, does knitting it manually vs. ordering a set pre knotted have an effect on the sound of the baroque/modern instrument when playing it?

well, that's a really interesting question! i have actually no experience whatsoever with this as the strings i play and have played through the years have not had the option of being pre-knotted, so i always ended up having to make a knot myself. Would be fascinating to know if it made a difference...

@UCPIeyDgreemqPketfsTCZMA Why not use D'addario Pro Arte Violin Strings (Wound E)? They're easier to install, & I'd be more impressed if there are Geared Tuners to keep it in tune.

Hello Fiona. How about the other strings? They don’t seem to have a “ ball “ end. Is there also a specific knot . Steven.

Hi Steef, i tie a big fat knot at one end of the A & D strings and this acts like a ball end. That technique doesn‘t work so well with the E string because it‘s so thin. The G string has a knot & loop on the end of it (it‘s a Gamut Tricolore), they make them that way.
