Even my local watchmaker could not remove the back of my son's Suunto Core, despite using every tool at his disposal. I eventually overcame the problem by using a 50 Euro coin (the closest fit ) and gluing it into the slot using a type of superglue (for which I also a tube of glue remover.) This worked perfectly and, after the battery had been changed, I removed all traces of the glue - job done!

You can keep that from happening again by using a very light...I said very light...I will say that again, because it is a application of miniscule proportion of vaseline applied to your finger tip, then smeared between your thumb so your finger has just a sheen. Then you wipe your finger around the gasket and threads on the cap. Screw the cap back on. The cap was stuck because of 1) contaminants on the threads or gasket 2) Excessive environmental temperatures causing the metal back to fuse to the dry rubber gasket. The vaseline is applied lightly which will not compromise the contacts or battery, but preserves the gasket, and improves the thread water integrity, and future unthreading.

If you don't want to scratch up the back batter cover as badly just get a thin towel or paper towel, fold it a few times, and put it around the end of the screw driver to provide an intermediate surface between the driver and battery cover.

Cover the slot with cellotape before using a coin to remove the back to avoid scratching. Do not touch the battery at all with fingers, use tweezers. Don't worry you will get lots of practice changing core batteries, the watch eats them.

Someone told me if u open battery cover and replace the battery the watch has to be pressurized for the alt. and barometer to work correctly ?? Was he wrong ? That's what kept me from buying this watch.

I love when people propagate misnomers, rumors and urban legends as facts instead of accessing evidence-based knowledge, or manufacturer's recommendations. Same fools that throw gas on fires to drown out the oxygen. No. A factory preset barometer value (somewhere around an ambient 29.90 millibars or cmHg or even hectopascal scales) is set in the watch, allowing the user to calibrate up or down to a reference barometer. The sensors in watches do not read the interior of the case as this idiot would believe, they have slots allowing the sensor to read OUTSIDE the case. Who was this fool?

Breitlingsource i don’t know what that means
@breitlingsource
@breitlingsource 5 жыл бұрын
@@1533willo search youtube for videos on shorting watch battery. Some watches need it to restart after a battery change. I can't remember if I needed it for the Suunto. If the battery you replaced it with is dead or cheap and not very good that could be the reason also.

AAAhhhhh!!! Did I just see a $2 screwdriver that doesn't fit the round groove used to remove and replace the battery cover? This means all the torque is transferred to the edges of the screwdriver, leaving permanent pressure nicks in that groove. When I used to sell pre-owned Rolex's, the surest way you can lose money on your watch is for the owner to do something to the $600 case. There are correctly-sized rounds that fit case grooves to open and close threaded plastic and metal battery doors for watches. Just like there are correctly sized screwdrivers for square-cut slot screws and philip screws. Man, lets just use a rock. Let me say it again...AaaHHHHH!!!

As a long time factory trained SCUBA equipment technician and Under WATER photographer, I can tell you that this is the incorrect protocol for maintaining water resistant integrity. CLEAN and scrub your watch first, paying close attention to the case back area. Use warm water, mild detergent solution and a soft or medium bristle tooth brush. At a bare minimum, carefully remove the o-ring without stretching it. Check for nicks and flattening of the 0-ring. CLEAN the o-ring and the case back and watch compartment channels carefully with isopropyl alcohol. Do not touch the battery with bare fingers. Gloves or tweezers, please! LIGHTLY coat/smear the old ring with fresh silicone grease. I use food grade, thick grease suitable for underwater SCUBA gear. DO NOT over grease. A nice light coat will do fine. The best scenario is to actually replace the o-ring each time. That can get pricey since the factory o-ring costs $16 shipped. Lightly grease any new dry o=ring. I have one factory o-ring on the way plus two aftermarket ones for comparison. One more thing. In spite of being MADE in China, the Finland based Suunto company mandates a JAPANESE made 2032 battery for their Core watches. Sony brand, to be precise. I hope this helps.

That's incorrect. The Core is designed for the battery to be user replaceable.
@Coleslawbreakfast

It may be designed that way but I had to put my watch in a vise and use a very large screwdriver to get it open. I had to put so much pressure on the back of the watch I was scared I was going to crush it. From the factory the back was torqued down pretty good. Just use caution is all.

James McVey Ah, perhaps the back case had been cross-threaded? I've changed the battery on my Core 3 times without issue, a little silicone grease on the o-ring is a good idea too.

habitullence It says on their website that users should change it else it's a $50 charge from Suunto. Put tape on the end of the screwdriver if you're worried about scratches.
