A man is trying to save independant garage services and rightly so. It would be a dire shame for these companies to die out run by experts who actually know what they're talking about like yourselves Al/Fudge.

Very interesting to hear about Simon and his Clutches. Does make you wonder why they don’t buy a simple website to promote their business. Doesn’t need to be fancy… or even a Facebook business page
@Simon-dm8zv24 күн бұрын
They do in fact have both a website and a facebook page.

Re-use, re-purpose, recycle (and refurbish!). I didn't even know recon clutches existed. Now I know, I'll look out for companies that refurbish them (I'm not in the UK). Thanks for the info!

"they may not be able to hear you as you have no microphone on"....that i think was Al telling fudgy to stop talking.😂. .comedy gold these fellas.

Super video once again. Good for you that you are promoting local businesses. You're a brave man to go under that van. I didn't realise that the lift posts weren't fixed to the ground. How stable are they ?. Anyway keep up the good work. I bet your subscriber base will go up in a few weeks when you take the old car to the show.

I had a MK2 Transit prop break free on me, left in the tarmac a furrow like a lion crawling across the desert with a hardon and gave the underside some absolute whacking. Was a garage's fault who hadn't put back in the clips into the UJ and well it worked itself out big time. No warning either, no build up clunking just one minute pottering along as one does in their LWB transit and next sounded like the world was ending /sigh

After 40 years, I finally have access to a garage with a 4 post lift. It also has heating. How I miss the great outdoors.

People who make stuff custom like that really do need to get their names out more often, otherwise they may just give up and leave the industry altogether and we'll never be able to get custom stuff made again...

very informative video, loads of good tips, how many people get carried away with the dugga dugga gun, seen loads, the bearing in the flywheel, not sure if its a bush or a bearing, but, on some you could fill the hole with grease, find a tight fitting rod (cut down broom handle for example) and hammer it in the hole so the pressure pushes bush out, i recently did a 2.5 di, (needle bearing) and used a slide hammer with the pulling jaws reversed, easier with 3 hands 😅 but came out lovely, thanks 6d, keep it up

Wondered if PCS relined brake shoes - yes they do and also remachine brake discs. Look forward to seeing the video on them - sounds like the sort of company to feature on Car SOS and Wheeler Dealers, etc.

Had a Sprinter with 1.4 million kilometers on the clock in for a clutch last week - not its first... another in today with just over 500k on the clock - amazingly, first time to be changed. Original out, new in. Flywheel too. Kit was over a grand... I could do with a Simon in my life..

Was it just me when at the start Al had his arms out wide and I was waiting for the good old Tadah saying but nothing. We even got to see a good old drop test on the new parts. Fantastic idea to giving a bit of air time to the guys who can fabricate clutches. As you say people with these kind of skills need preserving and using. Great safety tips at the end too advising about hand brake being on when jacked up on axel stands when tightening bolts up.

I'm a great believer in paint marking every bolt/ nut I undo when doing clutches or anything that takes a load/ is important (steering, suspension, sump plugs) that way I know I've done it up tight.

I've used Precision over next to the pub turned Indian restaurant in Henstridge, do a decent job and also for brake shoe linings too :) My friends brother owns the car showroom just before the old railway bridge on the blind crest there, used to be good for cheapum baccium...

Lovely instructional video, Al. Do you think you'd like doing a video about tools you really rate? Whilst I suspect you could change an engine with an adjustable and a handful of sticks, it would be interesting to hear your opinion on tools.

Is that a ZF gearbox used on the LT? Back in the day i changed a lot af clutches on the first series LT (Engine under the seats) In my aprentice time i also worked on the Perkins diesel versions, hated pulling the engine out the door.

Have the same issue with my d40 Navara. Eats clutches for breakfast. Interesting solution, does that modification make it single mass??
@6DDIESELSDorset25 күн бұрын
There was a recall that sorted it , new pedal box with free play. We kept the dual mass to give it a bit less drive line slap. 👍

I cringe when I see people start dogging bolts up with a big Duga Duga, most times you get away with it but it can lead to a easy job turning into a nightmare.
