Your older guitar restring video is how I learnt to restring my very first cheap ass guitar I bought at a yard sale like 5 years ago, I'll always be thankful to that video for where I am now because if it wasn't for that video, I never would've gotten serious about the guitar and come so far with my music skills. Keep up the awesome content man, love your work.

The only thing I'd like to say is, why cut the strings with wire cutters? After they are loosened, a little tug near the tuners and they just fall off. Then you only have to throw away six strings that can easily be coiled together. Cutting leaves twelve pieces to deal with. Yes, I know, not a big deal. Just saying. I've been playing for years and years, and until KZbin came along, I had never even heard of cutting the strings. Anyway, love this channel. Keep up the good work.

Is it possible to change it without a string winder?
@zacharynelson9937 Жыл бұрын
Yes, you could do it by hand, but it does winding and unwinding them way faster if you have one
@stancoleshill8925 Жыл бұрын
I agree. There was nothing that followed as to WHY you had to cut the strings. In my 62 years of playing guitar, I have never cut the strings. It's nothing but extra work !

I myself would only do this on an overhaul of a guitar. So I would do this but only rarely, here's my reason.......replacing one string at a time in sequence and being each replaced up to near tune saves pressure on multiple points on the guitar. Everything stays tight, one string being tampered with is much better on the rod, than all six. If I'm taking all six off at once I'm doing more than just strings. Anyway that's me. Have a good one.
@robcummings1003 ай бұрын
Just a little note, work from the middle out to avoid stressing the neck, so D, G, A, B, E, e. Before winding the new string, pull back about 2-3 inches as well, so you know how much you need to work with.

This is a bad technique. You should always remove one string at a time then replace that string. Sudden lack of tension from removing all the strings at once can affect the intonation.
@A-Wa Жыл бұрын
nah not true, else you could never clean and oil your fretboard
@DrB81 Жыл бұрын
@@A-Wa Incorrect. I didn’t say you should never take them all off to clean and oil occasionally. If you regularly change the strings however this technique is bad for the guitar’s intonation. I’ve played hundreds of gigs and professionally recorded many times so the advice comes from experience.
@Brads-strung-out Жыл бұрын
@@A-Wainstead of cleaning all at once you clean and oil in sequence. The op is dead right. The only reason I'd ever replace all six strings at the same time is during a total overhaul. I'm checking everything. Replacing one string at a time keeps everything right, you take one string off, the pressure changes, 2 off changes, all 6 and all play has no pressure anywhere in the system. There's a handful of reasons you wouldn't do this. The Oap is dead right on this one. I'll be uploading videos on everything guitar over the next few weeks, I'm starting tonight with a video on 'picks'
