Ok . but I have heard that sae90 is thick oil and it reduces torque (pickup ). Please tell me is this true ?

SAE 90 of gearbox oil shouldnot be confused with SAE grades of engine oil. Gearbox oil of SAE90 is almost same as 20w40 in terms of thickness (gear oil and engine oil grades are not compare directly - google it), maybe gear oil is little thicker at cold. Once the gear oil is warm, it becomes smoother and not reduce torque. It instead, increases it.

@@tuhinadribanerjee3214 your info is good. i also havent understood why all the manufacturers use engine oil in the gear box. dont they know difference between engine oil and gear oil. I have asked this question to many mechanics from the authorised service centres. they dont have any answer to that . May be they are bound to use only engine oil in the gear box. I would prefer gear oil in the gear box of any scooter with an automatic transmission(cvt ). regards

@@mandarshrotri5679 they use engine oil for the following reasons : 1) its almost 70% thinner when its cold,compared to gear oil. (Gear oils don't lube correctly till its about 65c and that takes a lot of time to rise in scooters. Engine oil can start lubing from 10-15c till 80c) 2) Since scooter finaldrives don't have a lot of gears (4) and mostly bearings, they don't have a lot of friction, thereby don't need gear oil for lubing. 3) Personal experience - I used SAE90 and 80w90 in my Honda Navi, which is a very lighweight machine and sensitive to changes in lubing and carb tuning - I found that with gear oil, top speed stays at about 80-83 (speedo), and with engine oil, it easily goes to 95 mark. 4) Conclusion - I mix Engine Oil : Gear Oil in 3:1 ratio and use it. There is no harm, and it gives the torque and smoothness of gear oil and top end of thinner engine oil.

Don't change gear oil every often. Do it once or twice a year. Otherwise, the new oil's vapours coming from the gearbox pressure relief system will make your air filter oily.
