The Energy store / spring assembly is an important part of a trailer coupling, it keeps pressure on the handbrake stopping it rolling away.
With trailer brakes having an auto reverse mechanism that shrinks the brake shoes as the trailer is reversed. The energy store will keep applying the brake further if it is left on the handbrake and the auto reverse mechanism is triggered.
If a trailer brakes away the handbrake will be activated by the brake away cable the energy store is the part that keeps handbrake on and stops the trailer.
These can corrode up stopping them from operating correctly.

Hi Thankyou for watching This can vary and needs doing based on distance and time if a trailer is used a handful of times a year and short distances it needs doing once or twice a year. if its used regular for short trips every month this would be the same for occasional long trips. for people that are intensively using such as car transporter companies that do 500 miles every day its recommended every week.
