I started in auto mechanics 50 years ago. Changing these belts was much harder then. Today it is dead easy, so why pay someone $125 / hour for something you can do yourself?
Belt sizes: Alternator is 4PK778 and the AC is 4PK675.

HI. Sounds like the mounting bolt has corroded. Try spraying a little Liquid Wrench onto the pivot bolt. The unit should move a little further in.

Hello hope you respond. Mine was really hard to remove. What should i do
@TheHighwayGroupie
@TheHighwayGroupie 4 жыл бұрын
I would like to reply, but you aren't really giving me much to work on. Why is it hard to remove? Is it not clearing the pullies? Try adding some penetrating oil to the adjustment bolts and nuts. Be careful not to spray the belts, unless the belts are the ones to be replaced. When backing off the adjustment nuts, use a screw driver of crowbar to help move the compressor or alternator. Hope this helps. HG.

I have changed the belts on my car but now it squeal when I turn the car on or when I turn the AC on and when I down shift to 2nd gear. Any tips?
@TheHighwayGroupie
@TheHighwayGroupie 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Mossab. Sorry to take so long to reply. Here are a few tips. A belt that is too tight will squeak and can damage the bushings on your pump, alternator, power steering (the i10 uses electrically assisted, so not an issue), and the AC. A belt that is too loose will squeak because of lack of friction. When tightened properly, the middle of the long segment should have a play of about 5mm when poked with your finger. More than that will require more tightening. Less than that is too tight. Some ‘new’ belts have been sitting on the shelf for a while and may lack enough friction to perform without squeaking. A car that has 100,000 Km on it will squeak even with a new belt. The reason is the pullies. After all those revolutions they become polished. Try a little belt assist spray. Permatex, Prestone, Super Tech, CRC and WD40 all have versions of this spray. Hope this helps, HG

How many kilometers do you replace it?
@TheHighwayGroupie
@TheHighwayGroupie 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Nicky. That isn't an easy answer to give. It depends on how hot your climate, how much salt or other agents that can attack the rubber are in the air, and if the belt was allowed to run a little loose. However, anywhere between 30,000 km and 60,000 km (about 19,000-38,000 miles). Hope this helps, HG

Thanks nice informative ......it's AC belt right?
@TheHighwayGroupie
@TheHighwayGroupie 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the short belt is for the AC compressor. But if you hear a squeak when you put on the AC, it is not necessarily the compressor belt. The AC requires more juice from the alternator, so that belt may squeak when putting on the AC.

I loosened the nuts but can't get the belt on. That thing does not move upwards.
@TheHighwayGroupie
@TheHighwayGroupie 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Charlikins. The bolts that move the alternator and compressor back have no brace to move the units forward. Time may have caused a little corrosion for form in the pivot point. So you may need to encourage them to move a little with a pry bar, such as a long screw driver or a wooden stick. Hope this helps. HG.

When putting this video up, you failed to explain that there are two pivot bolts underneath the compressor which need loosening!!!! Otherwise the compressor cannot move so as to remove the old belt. To get to pivot bolt nearest the road wheel, it is easier to access, if you remove the underside plastic splash guard that is secured by four small bolts (10mm socket required for wrench, and an extension bar helps!). This is why many people commenting, have had difficulty moving the compressor on its pivot, when loosening the adjuster!! Why not explain the job in full when posting these videos!

Hi, DMW. Thank you for your comment. My pivot bolts are in tight to the thread shoulder. They do not prevent the alternator and compressor from moving. Therefore, they did not need to be backed off. However, for the one comment that speaks of things being hard to move, perhaps he would appreciate your assistance. Don't forget to mention the chassis clips (pins) as well as the bolts. If you do give this suggestion to others, please let them know that this cannot be done with a simple car jack support. One needs to put proper car supports under the chassis, usually where it connects to the suspension, and the wheels need to be blocked so as to prevent the car from rolling. Finally, if you don't want your comments to be deleted, I would suggest that you make them a little more polite. Thank you again for your input. HG

Didn't mean to sound rude, it's just my way! lol. However, I managed to do it without a car jack. That's probably because I'm of small stature! That's interesting though about what you say about your pivot bolts. It got me wondering if there were slight differences in chassis types. Mine is an i10 registered in 2010 and 1.1 litre engine.

@@DMWMarketing Hi, DMW. No harm no foul. As for the chassis, from what I understand, there are four countries making these, so there are bound to be some differences. We bought this new, so these weren't modified by a previous owner. But I was able to move the compressor and alternator by hand without using levers and without loosening the pivots. So, they weren't that tight. But I'm somewhere over 6 feet and I have had to work under my wife's i10. No way I could do that without raising the car. I keep a hydrolic jack and car supports because I used to change my own oil. But with garages doing this for free now and disposing of the old oil also for free, I no longer feel compelled. But I do stand over their shoulder to make sure they do it right. All that to say that, if I did need to loosen those bottom pivot bolts, I would probably use my long wingspan to do it rather than raise the car. ;-)

Это все хуйня. На некоторых моделях генератор не двигается. Я менял методом снятия шкива от двигателя, он за правым колесом, за пластмассовой защитой. Снять защиту 3 минуты, снятия шкива 30 секунд, и столько же в обратном порядке
