The catalyst is defective.
The catalyst is designed to clean up harmful exhaust gases. It is located in the exhaust system, during its operation, chemical reactions take place: hazardous substances pass into safe forms, after which they are thrown out along with the exhaust. After going this way, the exhaust gases become cleaner. As a result, the car is less harmful to the environment. The neutralizer works only after heating up to 300 ° C; cleaning does not take place immediately after starting the engine.
The catalyst is based on ceramic or metal honeycomb. Depending on the model, a microlayer of palladium and rhodium or iridium is applied to the honeycomb walls. These metals are highly reactive. Touching the spraying, part of the exhaust enters into a chemical reaction with it. Some of the elements formed during the combustion of fuel bind.
Modern catalysts are three-component.
⊙ The first element binds nitrogen oxides.
⊙ Second - removes some of the unburned fuel elements. Most of the carbon monoxide is removed.
⊙ The third element is the sensor. It analyzes the gases at the outlet of the catalyst, the data is transmitted to the on-board computer.
