my 2003 KTM 300 EXC has an 8mm bleeder bolt on the other radiator from the filler twist cap. remove it and fill slowly until you get a dribble of coolant from the bleeder. This goes for many bikes and european cars (audi, WV, Volvo, Landrovers) - they are big about removing pockets of air that can quickly overheat and ruin your motor/head gasket/radiator.

Wish my Daytona were that simple; it isn't hard, but the service manual directions only tell you to remove the drain plug, which is at the base of the cylinder block. Lowest point of the system is the pump, so after draining the system as much as possible through the little drain hole, I pull the hose off the bottom of the pump and dump another pint or so! Don't know why they don't just tell you to do that or why the drain hole is above the pump. And it's finicky about coolant level, has to be thoroughly checked to ensure the air is all bled out after re-filling or it runs hot (once you get it right it's great though).

All I can say is winter sucks which is why, since my job allows for it, I go to Florida for the winter. The down side to that is that I have to work 24/7 during the summer. Oh well, nothings perfect I guess. Good video getting ready for warmer weather.

I recently bought a 2012. 450EXC. It dumps the coolant before the fan turns on. One of the friends says the radiator cap spring is done and the cap needs replacement. The other one says it is really complicated to flush the system on EXC (he has older, RFS engine in it). Like, when the air stays in the system, it will overheat so I need to use some specific method I can't find on the internet :D

Try a new rad cap first. The stock ones aren't that great.

@@2WR Thanks for the reply, this one is aftermarket but the previous owner ordered a new, stock one. So I'll give it a shot.

I run ENGINE ICE on my KTM and fold the hose over as a mechanical pinch -- you lose a lot less coolant that way. The ICE makes a HUGE difference. put it into my canam atv and the fans hardly ever kickon - before it was constant.

Also don’t forget there are a few bleeder bolts on the rfs engines. One I know for sure is above the piston. Forgetting these could create hot spots

I have a 2019 KTM 250 XCW tpi, and in my manual it says the last step when you are doing a coolant change it to bleed any air out of the hose that goes from the radiators to the cooler? I didn't see this in your video. Is this necessary then?
@2WR
@2WR 4 жыл бұрын
If you start it up with the radiator cap off (and let it run a little while), it'll burp the air out.

How often, do you/ should you change collant?
@2WR
@2WR 5 жыл бұрын
There’s no official service interval for changing the coolant. You could probably get by with every other year but I’ll be changing mine annually.

What's that extra chamber on your exhaust pipe? I'm a 2 stroke guy but I've never seen or noticed that setup before.
@2WR
@2WR 4 жыл бұрын
It's a resonating chamber. Basically quiets the exhaust down without losing power.

How is this with the radiator on the other side? Does it fill up with the other one? Or is the other radiator for something else?
@2WR
@2WR 3 жыл бұрын
Just fill it up like you would a one piece radiator. The 2 sides are connected through the frame.

As long as it meets the specification (basically motorcycle coolant), you should be fine.

only distilled water if you must add to concentrate. just like batteries - the minerals will MESS UP your cooling jackets, water pump, etc. splurge the extra $10 on the right stuff and avoid a world of hurt and expenses.
