You should change your differential fluid around every 30,000 - 70,000 miles depending on conditions. This was the first time I’ve changed it on my 2004 LLY Duramax, with 74K miles.
I lucked out and had drain plugs on both differentials, otherwise I’d have to remove the diff covers which can add time and cost.
Front Diff: Conventional 80w-90
Rear Diff: Synthetic 75-90

Make sure for anyone else doing this that you use a limited slip additive. Or you get the correct 75w90 synthetic with the GL5 additive in it. These rear axles need the additive.

I will now have to verify in my owners manual for my 1999 2500 6.0 if it specified for limited slip additive, this now concerns me.

So if nothing comes out of the fill hole when you remove it, you need to add fluid? I have a bad axel seal and am wondering how to check the level.

I'm no expert but I think the fluid should be about level with the fill hole! Thanks for watching!

If that’s the original diff fluid then you’re maybe a little overdue but nothing to worry about!

SHOULDNT THE FRONT BE A SYNTHETIC?

The owners manual doesn't say it needs to be but probably can't hurt! I just couldn't find the right weight in synthetic for the front that time. Thanks for watching!
