This is really helpful. I guess the main lesson here is that if things "explode" and a bunch of magnets fly out it's best to start clean and take all the magnets out. That way you let one side determine the polarity which makes everything easier instead of trying to salvage the magnets that are left. When I first got my Rapt I opened the lid slightly and a bunch of the magnets popped out of place. What I hadn't realized is that in the process of popping out they also flipped so when I pushed them back in I ended up with some magnets that were correct and others that were wrong. It was a mess. Took a while to wrap my head around things (which I eventually did) but this video would have been great to have had.

Very well said. Always better to start from the beginning. It's happened to all of us where we think all the polarity is good when it's not. Hopefully this shows that no matter what stage of the switch you're at, you can always check and end up winning in the end.

I had to laugh, because I know my recent posts in the FB group prompted this. This is a great tutorial and would have helped me greatly had I had the information contained herein. Fortunately, I got everything fixed, so my expensive slider is once again good to go. Thanks for making this tutorial. You are the bomb! Oh, I almost forgot to mention, another item that works well as a base plate when changing magnets is the Oxo kitchen scraper for boards and baking. The rubber handle keeps it from slipping around on the table. It is what I used and it worked like a charm. Thanks again for your help. This is a great community of generous people. I hope I can pay it forward some day and help another newbie.

Question: do some sliders require the magnets to be a certain orientation (rotation) or does that not matter?

No, rotation will not matter with any fidget sliders I've had experience with. This is because fidget sliders use "axially magnetized" magnets. When buying extra magnets, you should make sure they are this kind and not "diametrically magnetized" magnets. Those would not work lol. Yeah, but what if I wanted to replace a glued magnet( that I foolishly glued incorrectly) How can I remove or even break it into pieces to clear the hole? Does anyone know

Try soaking in rubbing alcohol and see if you can get the glue to melt away. Sometimes the alcohol won't be able to make it all the way around the magnet tho and you'll need to chip it out in pieces. Try using a small nail counter sink tool and a hammer!
