Shout out to the ultra clean BMW with zero rust. I’m a rust specialist as all the cars I work on are from the north and old. I would love to work on such a clean car. :-)

The jack you used at the 11:40 mark. Is this just a transmission jack with the top part removed?

I'm doing this project now on essentially the same car (2001 530i). The video is near prefect showing what needs to be done to get the strut out (including what size sockets and wrenches to use). My only issue with the tutorial is it doesn't show what's happening to the brake hose where it attaches to the brake line under the wheel well. While doing this on my car without first removing the caliper and hanging it to the side, the brake hose wasn't long enough to slide the wheel carrier down off the strut without putting a lot of stress on the brake hose where it attaches to the brake line. The hose gets bent nearly 180 degrees to the point of almost being pinched. We can't tell if that's happening here because it's not shown. My recommendation is to remove the caliper when doing this job (the Bentley manual agrees).

Question about the lower "eggshaped oblong" spring perch- in what position should this be placed? If wheels are pointing straight forward, should the longest part of the lower perch point back towards the door jam, somewhat like 5 o'clock position if looking straight down from above (12 o'clock being at the front of the car)? thx

Shouldn't the 3 x top nuts on the struts have been torqued up?
@autodocuk6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feedback! Please, make sure that you tightened the shock absorber nuts. Best regards, Autodoc.
@AldershotDave6 жыл бұрын
That doesn't actually answer what I said. Your video shows the bolts being tightened using a normal ratchet and you make no mention of a torque figure - however, the workshop manual that I have states that the nuts should be torqued up to 24Nm/18 ft lbs.

Some of the tool sizes are visible when the tech holds them for the camera, but some aren't. Mentioning the tool size in the audio, or posting a graphic on screen for a few seconds would be helpful. Nice production otherwise.
